Coaster Supports in comparison with real roller coaster

I'm a big fan of Planet Coaster and love the movement of roller coaster but I would like the dev to consider about this issue

According to my previous thread : Coaster Supports Need to be more realistic!

In games, we have various types of roller coasters to build but the supports are also important elements for roller coasters. Some roller coasters have big tracks but their supports are too small or seem incompatible. Some loops or rolls of some roller coasters have no supports although I've already ticked "Track Support" So I'd like to compare the coaster supports between in games and in reality for everyone to see why coaster supports should be fixed in the next update soon.

The first one is Trident (Boomerang)

I tried to build a simple Boomerang and chose a cobra roll and a vertical loop from the games. The supports for a cobra roll seem unrealistic when compared with the Boomerang from Six Flags St Louis and Siam Park City. Also, if I choose a loop from the games but I just want to have a small loop (about 70 feet) in this photo, no support for a vertical loop. So I need to build a vertical loop at 85 feet, the supports appear! I

And when choosing the smallest vertical loops from the games, many coasters have unrealistic and incompatible supports (some have no supports, some have just one support, some have weird supports)

and when I build bigger vertical loops, they do look unrealistic

and here are the pics from roller coaster supports in reality

Also, the upper supports for cobra rolls of Bakasura (Giant Inverted Boomerang) disappear. And the supports for the vertical loop seem unrealistic.
Actually, they're not supposed to be floating!

and some roller coasters have their supports incompatible with the tracks

For example: Prototype Wing

The supports for chain lift tracks seems beautiful but after that the supports look really unrealistic and they look too small and thin for the tracks compared with Skyrush at Hershey Parkand

Griffon made in game: The supports for vertical tracks are too much and inappropriate when compare with the real one

Torque Launched Coaster : The supports are all the same size no matter what tracks are (standard and standard 2x pieces)

Launched Hydraulic Coaster : The supports are too thin for the tracks. So they look unrealistic and unlike a launched coaster

I hope Devs will get these issues fixed soon. Everyone here loves to build roller coasters but unrealistic supports make roller coaster look ugly.

The problems about coaster supports in games now :

Supports should be fixed to be compatible with all types of roller coasters

Some coasters which have big tracks should have bigger supports (not small or thin supports)

No matter how small or big the loops are, the support should appear (the roller coasters are not supposed to be floating in the air ... make them look unrealistic)
- For example, when I build a small loop and I choose this part from the games, they always have no supports except for Inverted 2 Seat & Inverted 4 Seat, these 2 kinds always have supports for even a very small loop

The elements of roller coasters provided in games should be made well (for example, the cobra rolls for Giant Inverted Coaster ... also no supports for this part)

Thank you and hope my voice would be considered [up][wink]

Most of these problems with the supports would be fixed if we could place our own supports. Supports are a big part of the coaster's appearance so them not looking good is a big problem. I think the supports themselves do look really good, although some of them are way too thin, which can easily be seen in your pictures, but the generator often places wrong supports at the wrong spots on the track. One work around is to use the shortest possible track length when building a coaster. This way you have way more control over the supports, since every piece you place spawns a support, so you can just turn off the ones you don't need/look ugly etc.

Now,the Prototype Wing is a whole other story. I still don't understand why they thought having pre-made lift pieces was a good idea. The whole shape of the lift hill is wrong, and to make matters worse, it ends at the top of the lift hill with a flat piece of track!! [mad] There are only two of those coasters in the world, and both their lift hills don't look anything like the one in Planet Coaster.

Agreed. The prototype wing is the coaster most in need of some updates. The lift hill top is just so unasthetically pleasing I don't even use the ride in my parks. The lift supports are ok for the most part but agree the remaining track supports are very thin and don't mesh with the design. I wish they would make the supports on regular track to be the squared supports intamin uses in its real life counterpart.

But here is to hoping we see some changes. Sam Denney has expressed many times that he is a big coaster enthusiast and very passionate about the look and design of coasters. I hope that they will see these comments about the supports and continue to tweak them. When the intamin giga was released the supports were rather disappointing and they were updated in a small patch. Best thing to do is just keep conversation going about support issues as Frontier has proved in the past they DO listen to the fans

Me too, I don't build prototype wing and some other coasters in my park because of their thin and ugly supports. Maybe support tool should be added into the next update so we can build our roller coasters by ourselves [wink]

LOL I hope the devs will figure out this problem. Bad supports make coasters look unrealistic [ugh][ugh][ugh]

Same. I can't use the Prototype Wing due to its lift hill. It's a shame really, it's an awesome coaster and would really fit within my park, but that lift hill looks so unrealistic. Like Ddef12 said, Sam Denney has indeed expressed his love for coasters, so how that lift hill was ever passed as acceptable.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At first, I thought the supports would be fixed in the update 1.2 but they are still unrealistic. [sad][sad][sad]

Well, I think it's pretty well possible to create custom supports in-game. Does take lots of time though, but the result is beautiful.

Big shoutout and full credit to Freethebear for those awesome B&M giga supports.

I wish the current supports in games were like this custom supports ... really stunning but I prefer to have it automatically added lol

They look beautiful but from up close they lack a lot of detail and they aren't very practical either. It takes way too long to custom support an entire coaster using the primitive shapes and the object count will be insanely high.

I agree Chems and Flyasianjayzz, but it's simply impossible for the devs to make the supports in-game this good. It would require a custom support editor, with basic connectors, footers, flanges, etc. prebuilt with a mod (seems the best option) or by Frontier (would require lots of work for the devs though, as there are lots of different kinds of supports).
The user can place those anywhere on the track and this creates the ability to make your own custom supports quickly and effective.

Yeah, maybe a custom support editor would be the best choice to solve this problem cuz in reality, there are so many types of coasters in the world and they have different support designs so it's quite hard for the devs to make correct or fixed supports for all types of coasters in games ...at least hope the devs will consider our voices and make it better [up][up][up]

I agree. There has to be improved on for those who don't want to download mods (in case it's gonna be a mod).
The vertical loops and cobra rolls (as you mentioned) for example, because they're always in a fixed place and almost always have the same suppots.

Of course! I actually find that the current support generator does a pretty good job, considering it's all automated. But a custom support editor would be the only option for making truly realistic supports. However, even being able to just pick one of the current supports and place them on the track, instead of a generator doing this would be miles better than the current situation. It all boils down to control. I don't like it when the game takes control from the user, like shooters were you automatically go in cover or something. This is especially bad for a creative game like Planet Coaster. I really hope they consider a custom support editor, similar to how it works in NoLimits.

LOL Honestly, if the coaster supports look realistic, I may happen to have more ideas to build many coasters but now when thinking of....like prototype wing coaster, I need to stop building cuz its supports after the chain lift parts are really ugly [haha][haha]
