I know everyone's discussing it, but here's my shot, with the condition that I won't repeat any islands, and try to only pick endemics. So:
- (Tasmania) Tasmanian Devil -- a conservation success story, very cute and unique.
- (Papua New Guinea) Matschie's Tree Kangaroo -- another unique marsupial. Also, not poorly-represented in zoos.
- (Madagascar) Fossa -- not my cup of tea but a good Madagascan option other than another lemur, and quite high in demand.
- (New Zealand's North Island) North Island Brown Kiwi -- how could it not be? Cute, a unique bird, and undoubtedly New Zealand's most iconic species.
- (Hispaniola) Rhinoceros Iguana -- might be too small, but a nice little make-up gift for the other two iguanas. Unique-looking and a cool reptile.
- (Philippines) Visayan Warty Pig -- a "low-effort" pick that's still pretty unique and looks cool.
- (Hawaii) Nene -- a good bird and one kept outside Hawaii.
- (E) (Japanese Archipelago) Japanese Giant Salamander -- might be a bit too big, but they're fairly sedentary and rarely live in anything beyond just big tanks in zoos.
