Cobra MK IV, the holy Grail?

I'm wondering if the Cobra MK IV had been discontinued.

On three separate occasions now, I have hunted for a Cobra MK IV in different areas of the Bubble, and I can't find one to save my life.

I've been using Inara to try to find them. I don't remember how many stations I visited for the first two rounds of hunting one down, but this time I have already been to 20 different stations in just as many systems and no Cobra MK IVs.

I understand that supplies can be out when you get to a station, but not like this. Not every single station in these numbers.

Has anyone heard anything about them?

Looks like OP joined forum this year, so perhaps a newbie ;)

Incidentally, an Elite pirate interdicted me in one last night whilst I was doing a delivery run in my trusty Python. I did a loop of shame when I boosted past him as he was fleeing from me :p

If you're not funnin' around, then I'm sorry ya searched in vain EMM4! I also shall never know the joy of owning a Cobra mk IV... even though I was playing at the time it was offered, I didn't pre-order. My greatest regret!

It's got a lotta optional internals for its size which would make it a nice early mining ship, but overall it's a pretty unpopular ship with those that have one. I'd love to round out my collection with one, but we're apparently not missing too much. Maybe one day...!

Just use a Mk III, Asp, Dolphin, or something if you can't afford a Python yet, or use a Python.

Cobra Mk IV would be a decent steppingstone ship on your way to something better when you're starting out and credits are more difficult to come by. Other than that, its advantages as a small ship are more arbitrary and a matter of taste for small ships.

Being someone who actually likes small ships for their advantages, the Cobra Mk IV doesn't do it for me.

Not exactly, horizons used to be sold as a full priced product in its own right rather than a DLC. Players of ED vanilla were expected to pay full price for effectively another game account to play the Horizons add on. It was, at that time, the only way you could get Horizons.

Then the DLC version popped, cheaper but didn't give you the carrot (cobra mk IV) from the full priced version.

The full priced version was replaced with th "Commanders Edition" and we got a couple of paint jobs instead.

Actually I am serious about it.

I wasn't aware that it was nothing more than a pre order exclusive because I got the game for my PS4 as a late birthday present back in April this year.

It explains a lot really.

I really wanted to see what I could do with it as far as my play style goes.

Oh well, guess I can give up on finding one for myself.

Holy grail? More like the ship nobody really cares about but everyone wants who can't have it... :D

I wouldn't necessarily say that nobody cares about.
The fact that it repeatedly comes up in discussions when people attempt to purchase it and then find that they can't.
The fact that the debates repeatedly drop into three camps:
  • those that have it (on PC or Xbox) from when they pre-ordered Horizons and are happy for everyone to have it (now three years after it was withdrawn)
  • those that have it (on PC or Xbox) from when they pre-ordered Horizons and don't want other to have it. (They spent money on Horizons three years ago so the ship means something special to them / it gives them power over other people...)
  • those that don't have it (on PC, Xbox or PS4) and would like to be able to buy it.

I call them cobracondas. But that's just me.

For my accounts without them, at the moment the same role is done by a type-7 freighter. For something smaller, the keelback is nice too.

Its pretty grailish yeah. Don't let the nay sayers emo you down they just didnt get one. I personally think everyone should have one, the exclusivity joke is long over. Frontier aren't the most agile developers, but if fate says the opportunity is to come back it will only be on the ps4.

Yea, but if you check the main page for ED you get a nice presentation of all flyable ships, including the C4.
There is absolutely no mention that C4 cannot be purchased in the game and that it has a special status

Someone could genuinely ask for access to the ship or demand a refund.
TBH it should be removed from the Ships section or a really visible note should be added to its description

You are forgetting at least one camp, the PS players who don’t care at all if they never get one, because, well, meh basically.
I am in this camp myself. Plenty of other, better ships imo.
