Ships Cobra Mk IV

The Cobra MK iii is still my ship of choice after all this time since release. I love the way she flies and looks plus the history behind her yet I can't help wishing the MKiv would be introduced SOON. I'd imagine a cost between the Vulture and Clipper, 4 medium hard points on top and 2 small below or just 4 medium with at least 4 utility slots, a class 5 power plant, so basically retaining the same speed and similar looks but beefing up the armament and outfitting slots.
Alternatively I'd settle for backstreet garages being introduced where you could upgrade your ship, realistically of course, ie 2 small hard points for medium and 2 extra utility slots, lose some hull outfitting for a slightly bigger power plant.
Any thoughts?

For it's price, the Cobra is likely the most overpowered ship in the game. It's even better at certain things than more expensive ships that are designed for them.

So, no. In all fairness, it doesn't need a buffed up version at all. Your next multirole ship is probably the Asp, or just find something that's good at what you want to do.

I've been using a Diamondback Scout for some exploration. Not because it's any better at it, but for a change and because I like the aesthetics of the Scout (excluding the wiring hanging over onto the cockpit window).

That's the thing, only ship that does it for me is the Cobra TBH, other ships have had an upgraded model, Mk 3 must be due one after all it was the original Elite ship

While it's true that every other small ship pales in comparison to the Cobra, if the only way we can get a better ship than the Cobra is have another Cobra, I say: "why not?"

To be clear when I say "better" I do NOT mean "bigger". Maybe a medium ship at most. Still light and fast as hell with decent agility. Everything else is gravy.

There already is an effective Cobra MK IV, it is called Asp. It has more of everything except speed and agility, and if the Asp also had the same speed and agility of a Cobra, it would probably be very overpowered.

Apart from the Vulture, small ships can't really compete with larger ships in Open. So having a ship that costs as much as a Python but only fights as well as a Vulture while jumping as far as an Asp isn't exactly over powered. It just means that you are paying to combine different features that exist in all your smaller ships into one ship. The combination doesn't increase the ability of any single role, so it can't really be considered to be overpowered. It's more of a convenience factor.

I'd like to see a viable role for as many ships as possible that are already in the game. That's probably just wishful thinking too though. It seems FD doesn't mind wasting assets so much when filling out the details of ED.

So with that in mind, sure, why not? Personally though, I'm not too fond of the Cobra, beyond the significant capabilities that it has to offer (I've made most of my millions of credits so far trading rare items in a Cobra). I don't like ships with copilot seats and overall am not fond of the trapezoidal ship shape. I also prefer small ships with a better field of view.

I'm a huge Cobra fan too, and would welcome a Mk IV ....

Drop 2 x size 2 slots in favour of upping the small weapons to mediums & adding 2 hardpoints
Drop copilot space in favour of A5 powerplant

Price it anywhere from DBE to Asp, I don't care!

seeing how balanced, fast, cheap and agile Mr Braben made the mk 3, you can be sure that the last ship will be a mk 4 who will dominate every other ship

Late comer to this thread. All the mk4 needs is to drop the small hard points from the "wing" tips and have 1 large hardpoint underneath.

Hey presto, a better version of the Cobra that doesn't blow everything else out of the water

I have Mk3 as my weekend joy ride. I love it. Would like to see Cobra Mk4 with upgraded power plant, distributor and bigger hardpoints. Very important for Mk 4 would be maintaining its speed. Nobody wants bigger and slower Cobra. First of all this kind of ships already in the game (ASP, Courier and such ), also Cobra is a hot rod and it should remain as such. As the matter of fact it should be Cobra Mk3 GT or something like this :)

Buy horizons and unlock the Cobra Mk IV (it's coming).

Have my lifetime pass and waiting for beta ...

Yeah, same here. I think this thread was started before we knew about the Cobra Mk. IV coming out in Horizons though. I look forward to testing it out, but I'm guessing it'll have it's shortcomings compared to the Mk. III for balancing reasons. So, not exactly an upgrade in all respects, but we'll see.
