Cobra MKIII successor?

Im currently sitting in the Cobra MkIII hunting for fat bounties in whatever system my prey leads me.

So far Im very pleased with the ship. While it isnt as agile as the previous ship, the eagle, it certainly
has much more fire power, is fast enough to hunt down any target i encountered so far, lets me pursue
a wide range of crafts should they be able to jump out before my multicannons demolish their hulls and
enables me to do some smuggling on the side.

The next logical step up the scale to me is the ASP Explorer. However in the last few days i began to think:

the ASP is a much larger vessel and with that comes a decrease in agility. with that im thinking it will be hard
to get the front pointing towards my target. So gimbaled weapons will have to be fitted. And that makes me
vulnurable to tracking disruption. and if i cant project damage to the target in a timely fashion the ammo to bounty
ratio will get worse which will cut down profits.

Long story short: Is the Cobra the ultimate ship for my profession or is it worth it upgrading to the ASP Explorer?

After all it does have yet again more hardpoints for more damage...

Behave or well be meeting each other real soon ;P

Just make sure you have enough mony to buy a High class A powerplant and Thrusters then its verry manouvrable

It really comes down to personal preference.

I prefer the Cobra myself, although less hardpoints, it's quicker and just feels right for me.

I am (although it will take quite some time) looking at upgrading to the python. That's my next choice, but it's going to take some time to get there, as not only is the ship itself expensive, but the running costs are also going to be insane.

Hi Good points made M8, I am in the same dilemma, to night I was going to buy and try as you get your part-exchanged back, I was thinking of keeping my CobraIII as well. I will watch this space see what the experienced guys think.

I'm running the same bounty game, but I'm using a viper kitted out with A level modules, 4 Multi cannons.

I tried out the cobra in the gamma and beta, but visually it's less menacing than the viper. And i've noticed very few differences, a few clicks extra speed on boost, but that's made up for with an improved gun placement on the viper en better shield/hull strength (according to the stats).
With the full A level thrusters it even feels like it's as nippy and OP as it was in the beta1.

I can now take down elite level conda's (the bounty mission ones), with 100% hull intact.
I use gimballed guns, so I can whittle down shields from 2-3 Km's away, and get the quickest kill possible.

I experimented with fixed beam weapons, so I could loiter for longer at Resource extraction points, but it wasn't as satisfying.

The asp seems like it doesn't add much more to trade in for less agility, the insurance and rebuy costs totally scuttled my desire for one as well.

I'm sticking with the viper until an intermediate heavy fighter is added to the roster. And there's more high paying combat opportunities.

both python and annaconda seem to be very nice yet terribly expensive to purchase and to run. The reason im not even thinking about getting one of the is that i cannot imagine myself to be doing bounty hunting with these vessels. to me they feel more like an officialy choose a side and fight type of ship. and i do not know how profitable it will be in the long run to choose a faction...

I myself have to save up a lot of credits untill i can buy the asp but like i said im not sure if it woulnt be better to save the money for other stuff like upgrading every aspect of the cobra to a maximum or try something else like being a fulltime smuggler/trader with a fast hauler...

I agree completely, the Cobra is a great bounty hunter platform, I think it even beats the Viper. I'm also considering going for the Python next as it seems like the only other ship that'll give the same satisfaction as the Cobra does now, just on a whole new level.

Currently I'm sitting on about 1mil, not taking into consideration my assets, so I'm toying with the idea of having a trade ship on the go. Only because it'll take forever to get the credits together for a Python from just bounty hunting and smuggling on the side.

I don't think I'll get rid of my Cobra though, I don't think I'll ever get rid of it.

So far the Cobra is turning out to be my work horse - I can do all aspects of the game in it and it doesn't cost the earth to replace in the event of a mishap. I suspect the Asp or Python would be the thing to replace it with.

The Viper is still my favourite ship to pilot from a fun perspective but its much more limited. I hope in future we can have some sort of shipping system for our stored ships.

You won't have problems targeting enemies in the Asp, far superior to the cobra. The only downside is you have to spend quite a bit to get it anywhere as agile as the Cobra.

I agree with you,
I'm currently flying with 2 ships :
A fully combat fitted Viper
A rare commodities trader with a Cobra

I may get an Adder fiitted for exploration

The main advantage of the cobra is that it can be fitted for any role and can do it fairly well :)
Plus it's quite quick so if you get interdicted you ran easuley run away from your agressor !

In the current state of the game... You'll need a type6 to grind some like 10mm to be able to start bounty hunting again.... A good ASP for that its close to 20mm...
