Cockpits.

My opinion of cockpits.

Is that they are awful, modern beige'ist SUV type thing's that are not very good.

Real cockpits look good, they feel good. They don't waste vast amounts of space for no reason at all. Please re-make cockpits so they don't suck. Thx.

Presumably you're in the Hauler or Adder if it looks like an SUV to you. The Eagle's cockpit looks much less like a family minivan, and is cheaper than both.

The only one I take exception with is the Hauler, feels like a Ford Ka lol. I like the rest of them. The Python is great and the Asp canopy is amazing. T-7 is another good one as is the Viper. Could do with some reading lamps in there for when there is no star to light the inside.

Go check out a modern fighter cockpit, it makes you wana fly. I look at the pits in ED and all i want to do is go pay the electricity bill.

Heh, have you seen the cockpit of a Clipper? It's the prettiest thing ever. Also, the Python's cockpit reminds me of the Star Wars ships interiors, retro, but still cool looking.

Python is great, love the way you can look right behind you and there is loads of space and stuff going on. Keep expecting to see someone there. Well, that was when I have a Python, it had to go to fund other activities.

Elite ships are not like fighter planes, they are more like automated destroyer warships, and the "cockpit" is the bridge (most even have multiple chairs).

EDIT - Removed to avoid the naughty chair... :D

Seriously tho, the cockpits (and bridges) in this game are awesome, they have to be experienced VR to truly appreciate them. The Clipper is the only Bridge I can think of that wastes space

Something like an Eagle has a cockpit, an Anaconda would more accurately have a bridge, more akin to a large ocean vessel on Earth than a plane. The other ED ships are somewhere in between. Also you tend to spend a lot longer in a Cobra than you would in a F16, so the cabin space would be different. It's a different context.

OP, the starting cockpits are cramped. Get in the bigger ships, and things just ooze luxury and awesomeness. The FDL cockpit is tied for my favorite with the Clipper.

Well you know what you can do with your opinion 777Driver

But seriously, the elite ships are not fighter planes. They are meant for long-term habitation by at least the one pilot and as such most of them have bridges and not cockpits. Even the sidewinder has a sleeping area, you just don't see it. Also, keep in mind that you really have not seen the cockpits/bridges until you put on a VR helmet. In VR not only are the bridges a totally different experience, the whole game is an entirely different (and incredibly more rich) experience - almost an entirely different game. So, as SteveLaw said, it's a different context.
Do you really think a fighter jet pilot enjoys a long flight as much as an airline pilot?

My only real criticism is on the Python where there is a speaker or something which sits right at the top and gets in the way when you are manoeuvring.

As usual you bring up a good point buddy. In 2D I thought the Eagle was only slightly larger than a modern day fighter jet. It wasn't until I viewed it in VR that I realized it is as large as single aisle airliner. The larger ships have bridges, so no point trying to compare it to any flight deck here on earth

...and I'm going to weigh in for the Hauler and say it's a lovely little cockpit. Certainly there are better ones out there, but for the cheapest way to see the galaxy it's not at all disappointing to look at (it's been called the transit van of space for a good reason, it really does go anywhere, carrying any load you want<g>)

Have Fun,
Jintosh

your opinions are noted

I believe Frontier are recruiting at the moment :) ............................

Entirely subjective.

Be realistic OP, they are not going to change an entire design just because you don't like the design of it.

I personally love the design of the cockpits.

The hauler has cupholders therefore it is the best cockpit in the game (seriously though i'm not entirely sure the hauler cockpit is finished yet)

e: no wait i'm talking about the adder here, i need a nap. the hauler needs a copy of the daily mirror and a white paper bag with a bacon sandwich in it on the dashboard
