CODE blockade and roleplay

EDIT: Since the thread is turning into an argument, let me try to rephrase what this post was about:

I believe we all agree that, whether you play a honest trader or a bad guy, we all like to see as many players as possible in open play. Arriving to a system and seeing only 1-2 hollow icons on the scanner is like...meh...
For this reason, don't you think that any actions driving players out of open mode should be avoided?

You want to PvP/kill for fun, fine but shouldn't you select a challenging opponent and/or drop a line telling him to be ready to fight/die? This should bring them a smile when their ship pops and think "hell yeah, Elite is dangerous!".
You are doing a blockade and ask a T6/7/9 to drop all cargo related to the Community Goal, fine. But telling them to never come back or be killed on sight, why? You know they will not abandon the CG and are basically pushing them to do it solo for a while.
Doing this kind of stuff leads to less players in open play, meaning less fun for everybody including you, no?

One more time, I do not want to argue here, just want to hear your thoughts.

----INITIAL POST----
-----------------------
First of all, don't get me wrong, I like pirates, challenge and the risk of losing. I am not whining/complaining here.
I'm addressing this post to pirates, psychos, weirdos who spend their time attempting to mess things up.

EDIT: My post is not about piracy (i.e.: getting traders to drop cargo).
My post is about other behaviors consisting of being a pure annoyance, without any profit, to other players.

Examples given:
- CODE interdicting during CG and letting the traders know that they have their name on Kill On Sight list and they should never return to the system or face instant death.
- Psychos (not griefers) aiming at simply seeing as many ships explode, mostly targeting the weaks, or taking down by "surprise", without a word even if the prey has initiated communication.
- Guys opposed to slavery and freeing these poor souls by destroying the ship (not sure this makes them any good).

Simply: WHY EXACTLY DO YOU DO THIS?

- Blockade during CG eventually drives traders to do solo (at least, those who had the nuts to play in open) for a while, leading to them doing actually greater and easier profit. By your actions you are actually speeding up the CG to reach the goal and you are just an annoyance (trader can't have fun playing in open and any other players, including you, see in the end less players in open).
EDIT: It also pushes traders to flee straight after any interdiction since they are afraid now to be shot down directly. And then pirates complain that traders never comply to their demands...
- Psychos (not griefers), why the hell don't you at least drop a macro telling that you are craving for murders and it's dinner time? What's the point of an easy kill without a bit of drama? You drive players to solo rather than having them smile and think, "yes, Elite is indeed dangerous" while they end up claiming the insurance.
- The last point mentioned above is actually a mix of blockade and psycho. The end result is the same.

I want to hear the opinion from those who do that kind of stuff. I get it that you like PvP but why don't you make things in a different way, that would actually make sense? Or do you like being a simple pure annoyance, like griefers?

An extra question:
If you're going to blockade a system in a "no girls allowed treehouse fort" style system I get it, tell people they're not welcome and kill those that return, have a home base with only your group influencing the factions and trade economy. Makes sense, I get it.

What no one seems to explain is why they then choose Diso, a system in the middle of the most popular rare trade cluster. Pick a random Anarchy or independent world away from key systems would perhaps be better and more successful than the pitiful excuse for a blockade that it is at the moment.*

*I was literally sat in in Diso at 30km/hr supercruise going in and out of instances every 10 minutes or so and wasn't interdicted once. I was actually disappointed.

These guys don't seem to understand that they can't blockade a system... even in open. Must be just a pure role-play thing to satisfy egos or create a story or... something. (Either that or they think they are playing 'some other game'.)

It depends at what time you play, and your timezone. I'm in Mountain time and it's dead quiet after 10pm, even at systems popular for piracy such as Witchhaul.

Also, CODE has stopped their blockade on Diso since the CG has ended.
EDIT: But I did get interdicted a couple of times during the CG at Diso, and only met psychos (who did not exchange any word with me, open fire at point blank while I asked for their intention, hardpoints retracted, and had to high-wake)...well, at least i did not drop any single ton of cargo that day... :(

im sure they caught many people in the cg duration ;)

I pick on traders during CGs when I oppose the goal but there's no official "other side" to take. I figure traders participating in CGs in Open have to be aware of the risk and if they run off to Solo because they got whooped then that sucks but oh well.

I'm UK time, if they're American then that explains a lot and common sense has nothing to do with it. <- I joke of course (massive generalisation) but I do feel like the CODE logic is not quite 100% with all the people in their group.

1) Blockades are RP-motivated, it is not about whether it works or not. Same with slavery, there is simply no real anti-slavery mechanism in ED.
2) Recently I've started RP a 'psycho' as you'd call it (although there is an extensive RP background which severely limits who I can target). So far all victims have been NPCs (hey, I started my role with a Sidewinder and 500 credits or so and I'm in some backwater Empire system that literally had no traffic except for me) but right now I dont know how macros work. So if I suddenly bump into a cmdr who matches my criteria I may not have the time to type extensive dialogue.

Not sure if this answers your questions but it is the best I've got. :)

The only answer is this, leave Open play and move to Solo or Group play.

I do not like telling people to do this because too many people take it upon themselves to start judging everybody because they say "either stop complaining or move to group or solo." Now I get sick and tired of seeing posts where people complain all the time about this person griefing or that person ganking and so on. The best place for these troubled people is in a game all by themselves. If everybody left Open then nobody would be complaining about being killed by these people.

You need to choose, play in open and stop the complaining OR move to Group/Solo mode and have fun with new friends..., its your choice.

You could just avoid the places they hang out.

One more time, this is not a post to complain about anything. I play open, I understand and like the risks.
Here I want to understand the motivation of those (thank you sleutelbos for answering BTW) who decided to mess up things, without any real purpose / profit.

EDIT: During Diso CG goal, I was expecting to meet pirates, negociate, drop cargo, agree for a good fight...but all I met where psychos, not even communicating, opening fire at point blank while I was typing...not cool.

That's the point I don't understand. Wouldn't it be in the interest of a Open mode PvP player to keep as many players as possible in Open mode? By driving traders into Solo the only ones who lose are the open mode pirates. Who to pirate if there are no traders anymore? Other pirates?

Not pirating anyone just to keep them from going to solo isn't exactly a solution, either.

You've already answered your question. It is in that instance a RP blockade of one particular group. If someone chose to kill you rather than talk that was their choice to freely make. If you died you weren't prepared, if you survived you were.

I don't play this game with all my decisions revolving around "hmm I wonder if this decision will keep more people in Open play?!" Solo and group are legit modes just like open mode. It is a bit arrogant to make suggestions on how someone else play (in the form of questions) in open mode...open is to play however you wish with other people, solo is to decide how everyone who plays the game plays exactly how you want them to.

It's all about the balance and there is a difference between pirating and blockading a system. Why not let the traders have their fun in their GC and pirate somewhere else or go there and pirate (as in steal their cargo) some of the traders at the CG - without killing them?

Sure, traders can run - why not let them run (after shooting a bit at them) or disable their drives and then take all their cargo? If a player in open wants to RP he will stop and RP with you. You get some cargo, the player has some excitement and everybody is happy. No trader will stop and comply to your demands if he don't want to and there is no way to force him to do so. Killing him will only set the trader back or drive him into solo. The only ones who lose anything by killing traders are pirates.

I say the same reason that you posted this post.

We are delivery a message/pursuing our interest by doing the blockade. Whether how successful it is, well that depends on our satisfaction in RP. I personally had a lot of fun in the blockade, trader after trader and I didn't even have time to restock rail guns/heat sinks in my FDL.

So for us it was a success in the sense that we committed to something as a group and stood for some principles.

I can't speak for the other categories.

Ok, thank you for answering.
I hope you are not the kind of pirate who complains that traders always try to run away and never seem to be willing to comply and negotiate, making real piracy suck.
