I keep seeing this pattern on the wave scanner it doesn't seem to match the ones I've seen in many tutorials. Does anyone recognize it? I get tons of these and they usually don't pan out.

I'm not sure anyone is quite sure what those 'ghost fingers' represent...
Some people seem to think that they are simply indicating a signal that is very distant, but often if you follow them they just vanish, so probably not.

When escape pods were a thing, those finger like signals on the scanner would usually indicate them when the pods were at a distance
I'm pretty sure it's just 'background noise'. As Faded Glory indicated, it indicates a very weak signal which may (or may not) pan out into something stronger.
