CODEX / First Discovered / First Mapped

Can anyone explain (or point me in the right direction) how the sequence of events works when you discover an undiscovered item ?

AFAICT it goes:-

(1) If not already reported, "Reported By" gets an entry in the CODEX ... *everyone* sees this, plus the location ??
(2) If not already confirmed, "Confirmed By" gets an entry in the CODEX ... but only for your personal CODEX
(3) You then have to fly back and sell the cartographic data to get First Discovered and (possibly) First Mapped.

So if I find an undiscovered ELW, its location *might* get announced to everyone in the "Reported By" entry.

If they then quickly fly out, scan the same object and sell the data *before* I've got back to sell the data, they'd get all the "First Discovered" and "First Mapped" tags ?

Have a read of this post and then the following ones it may clear it all up rather than explaining again.

The Codex shows everything that has been found (by you or others) in each region. It only keeps track of one of each type of object, so for example as Uncoupledlight9 says there are 2 types of Water World, Terraformable and Non-Terraformable. If someone else has discovered them they show as ! reported, when you discover one it shows as ✔ confirmed. Under each type it also shows you the records for each category of that type you have discovered (e.g hottest/coldest/biggest/smallest), though there is a bug where it is not updating past the first object you discover but it is being recorded server side.

You do not need to hand in data to get an entry into the Codex it happens straight away. If an object has not been found in your current sector, a Black Hole for example, then there just won't be an entry for it at all on the Stars page and if you are then the first person to find one it will show as Confirmed but when you expand you will see you have the Reported, and Confirmed.

First discovered and mapped are only given to you once you have sold the data.

If you are the very first person to ever discover a new object category in a galactic region, then yes, theoretically, someone could "steal" the system map tags for your discovery. But, since virtually all the basic categories of objects have already been discovered in every region by now, it's pretty unlikely that you would get a Codex entry just by chance. And even if you did get a Codex Reported By entry, I doubt anyone would notice such a thing in time to attempt a theft. And in any event, they can't steal the Codex entry itself.
