PvP Cold Blooded Killers

Before I get started, I am a casual player putting 3-4 hours game play a week, novice combat rating, I like to play in open so I get the full ED experience of meeting other commanders.

Now the reason for this post, I am currently unlocking the Engineers and was on my way to Todd McQueen with 100,000 bounty credits in my basic spec Python. I spot two other commanders in FDL's next thing I am interdicted by these 2 commanders and 10 seconds later faced with a re-buy screen. No communication, no request for cargo (I didn't have any anyway), I didn't even have a bounty, so what was the point, nothing was gained it just left me with a 4,000,000+ re-buy and having to rack up another 100K of bounties. I know people will say don't play in open if you want to avoid getting blown up by another commander but then I feel I am missing out on a big part of the ED experience as 90% of commanders are fine. I wouldn't mind a commander attacking me if I had valuable cargo or a bounty on my head, but why attack another commander just to kill them, what reward in the game do you get from it.

The net result of this is I have decided to leave the bubble to visit SAG A (in open), I have wanted to do it for a while but kept putting it off, I intend to take my time.

There is a middle ground. Join one of the large Private Groups, with PvE rules. You will still find other Commanders to meet, but they will be way less shooty. You can always dip into open when you feel like it. Win -Win.

At the end of the day we all have different roles to play ingame, they may have simply been pirates or assassin's and fulfilling their roles so no bounty or cargo would be required. I'm a smuggler and would only attck another CMDR if they had cargo or material that i wanted but i'd certainly send you a message first so it's really something you have to open your mind to if you want to play in open but best of luck CMDR.

It sucks that open is ruined by tools. Unfortunately the only solution is to play in private group if you still want interaction with people. Just stay out of open and these a holes won't have any fresh meat to kill.

If you like play in Open make your Python stronger and faster ... and run run run from re-buy screen!
Open is like Arena. Only in galaxy. Kill or run.

BTW: You can visit SAG A even in Solo!

This is a thing that can happen, and sometimes does. Armed with this information how will you approach the situation in future?

There are two main options:

Use a different mode and/or player blacklist to more accurately define who you want to share your playtime with, or
Rise to the challenge & learn to out-think and out-fly your opponent.

If your opponents are flying FDLs it's reasonable to assume they aren't massively skilled, they just have the gear they have read is the best & are looking for easy targets. Don't be an easy target for them by either not being there, or anticipating their moves.

Why do they exist in real life? Unbalanced people just like to be able to ruin others' days without consequence. Sad really, but what ya gonna do.

Next time, during the interdiction, set pips to 2-4-0, then submit, during the drop sequence, set 75% throttle for maximum agility, FA off, spin around to face your enemies, FA on, full throttle, boost past them, FSD (low wake will do), and spiral with a little side thrust (or yaw) so you are difficult to hit while it's charging.

Watch out at Sag A, there are gankers there as well, and you'll lose a lot more than 100k in bounties (think 40m in explo data).

What reward do they get?

Well, if they're very lucky...a thread like this!

Seriously...if you're doing an activity that is time-intensive with the opportunity for players to disrupt & set you back, use your brain & don't play in Open! Holy F...it's not rocket surgery!

well the point is, that they cost you 4mill ><

With most games, they can be used as a tool to get something a player needs beyond what the game was created for. In this case, some 'players' get a kick from knowing they may have upset someone in the real world*1. People can say, 'its just a game don't get upset', not arguing that point here, just explaining why people kill easy targets.

I would not suggest exploring in open, even the big events don't. Chances are you will meet a player killer over an explorer/friendly... a killer/s logged out in a second account at popular spots (sag A* and tourist spots) just in the hope they log in and get to kill and explorer.

1*) when someone can't make productive change in the world, they normally go for the negative (especially in younger years), it's so much easier to destroy than create.

Example; the driving force behind random vandalism. Most the time is not malice, but a deep/subconscious need to make a mark on the world, to change the world and become part of it.

The only lasting solution to senseless griefing are game design changes that discourage it to the point that engaging in it has a lasting cost for the attacker. Even the upcoming C&P changes fall way short of it.

Having said that, if you see ANY potentially PvP ship maneuvering around you and you are in no position to fight back, what you do is instantly drop off SC and switch to Solo / Private Group.
Be sure to add the people who killed you this way to your Block List to prevent being instanced with them in the future - luckily, the idiots playing this game are not that many.

You have my sympathies, CMDR. This, sadly, is why I choose to play in Solo or the Mobius private group.

As you, I could tolerate being attacked/killed if there was a logical motive to it. But in instances like this there isn't. They do it because they can. No morals involved.

The fools that took you out are probably getting their kicks from us discussing their mindless game-spoiling actions as much as actually doing it. So I rarely comment.

I just satisfy myself with the thought that in real-life those people are probably the ones that got bullied at school and take perverse delight in such dishonourable deeds in game, because they don't have the guts to stand up for themselves in the real world.

They are inadequates who probably get their thrills pulling the wings off butterflies. Something seriously wrong with them.

Join Mobius, you'll get huge enjoyment out of the multi-player element with a group of people who grew out of such behaviour shortly after leaving infant school.

Fly safe, CMDR o7

All your posts make sense and I knew the answer before I started this rant. I know complaining on a forum isn't going to solve anything, it's only a game at the end of the day, but sometimes you have to release your frustrations.

One more new pilot for Möbius.
.
It's always the same story. Almost word for word. Makes it all sound more fake than real.
.
Any hey, one more who rather covers his eyes and ears and screams "lies", no matter what. Alas, there are some who can't believe it when people independently report similar expierences. They would rather believe it to be some huge conspiracy, than acknowledging that such experiences happen. (It doesn't require many players of above described behaviour. A few bad apples can do a lot of damage... )
