One thing that always bugs me when I try to do a jack-of-all-trades / mercenary playstyle, is that most missions require you to come back to the original quest giver in order to get the reward. For some of them, it makes sense (supply/recovery missions) but for others, it shouldn't be really necessary . That means that I cannot just fly around, from planet to planet, doing odd jobs and blazing my own trail.
I would suggest that, same with bounties/fines, you could turn successful missions at Interstellar faction contacts. That way you can accumulate them and, when you pass by one of them, you turn it in for your reward. Is that something that would make sense?
