Horizons Collecting Planetary Synthesis Materials

Ok. I have found all the rare, very rare and common materials on 100% metal planets as well as all the very commons on 30%+ planets. >> https://drive.google.com/open?id=1PptearB6mnS9x7kbnsVrsJMsvao-0cACgRCiCsk7m2o <<

Starting to consider how to rebuild my AspX.

I am thinking this until I have collected the materials to repair/rearm the SRV then switch to a SINGLE BAY.

I want to maintain the capability to take on the punk NPC's in unexploited systems and collect bounty's since over half my locations are in anarchy.
I also want to keep max jump range.

There is also the question of the advantages/disadvantages of having a crew member to mind the ship when I am collecting materials.

When you're collecting surface mats, dismiss your ship to orbit. It keeps it safe. Then recall when you're ready to go.

Unless you are exploring, single bay SRV is all you need. Basic repair mats are very common, so unless you're really knocking the SRV around hard, you don't need too many in storage, you can pick them up as you go.

Go for engineering on your fsd, shields and weapons first, class A and G3 mods. Relatively easy to do.

Humnn. So, the SRV isn't as delicate as most of the posts about it make it seem.

I think when I get ready to do this I will start doing collection in systems and on planets/moons that are inhabited so if I break something, I can get it repaired.

1. You can't hire any NPC crew in an Asp. Dismiss ship when you are in your SRV and the ship will be safe.

2. You usually don't need to repair your SRV by synthesis - it is magically repaired when on board the ship. I think that is intended, didn't check in the short beta we had for 2.4 update.

3. If you are near civilization you need not worry about having two SRVs - if you should destroy one, you get teleported back to you ship - go buy another somewhere.

AspX Crew 2..

2. and 3. are really good to know.

Thanks

You can drive around a rocky world pretty much indefinitely. As long as you can get sulphur and phosphorus, you can refuel indefinitely, and if they're there at all, you will soon be leaving them on the ground. Iron/nickel enables repairs, but hopping in and out of the ship is super easy. I rarely use either, and if you're even slightly careful you'll never lose an SRV unintentionally. The only real danger is on the very rare worlds that have slopes too tall and steep to climb out of, and you can easily avoid that problem by not being an idiot and playing in the canyons.

And currently, crew and 100% useless for anything that doesn't have a fighter bay. Actually, WORSE than useless, as they get a cut of most of the money you make, even just sitting on their butt. They must have a good union.

Interesting. Sulfur and phosphorus (also carbon) so far have not been on any 100% metal body I have found.

AspX Crew 2..

.............

Try it then.... ;)

.... NPC crew can only be used for SLF, Asp can't have a Fighter Hangar therefore no NPC crew.

You can have a PLAYER as part of your crew, just not an NPC.

You of course can hire NPCs but you can't have an active one in an Asp - Like this:

Yes one SRV and never need anymore. Repairing or refueling takes such common materials that you pretty much never have to ever worry about destroying one. I bash my SRV around a lot, and can end up repairing it a few times on a run, most the materials are found in pretty much everything that you need for synthesis...

Ok,
Since I first posted this I have found one system where I should be able to find 22 of the 24 synthesis materials in relatively easily recoverable amounts. Only missing Po and Tc which would allow me to get everything for my SRV but the highest level of fuel and ammo. Will I actually need highest level ammo to collect materials??
I will also be able to get the 1st 2 levels of FSD boost which right now is my primary desire after making sure I can keep the SRV running.

I am looking at two possible builds since I want to maintain the ability to hunt punks and explore.

Armor with Chaff and a Shield Booster

Shield Cell and Heat Sink

No! They take quite a bashing! I don't like driving slow! Going 29 mph or whatever it is ... Whack into a boulder ... dead stop! Maybe 87% hull. Leaping off rises in low gravity planets, tumble several times! haven't broken one yet!

OK

Looking at this list taylored for my current ship build and activities >>>> https://drive.google.com/open?id=1R_mS0_8WnpNk4rBb6OKPMd_yEwL3CUIMwi4hfUcpIiI <<< it appears that I have no need for any carbon and a lot of primary need for Germanium, Niobium, Phosphorous, Sulfur, Vanadium.

I also need to keep space for materials for Chaff if I can ever find them.

I am already at 600+ of 1000 so it looks like I need to do some careful planning to keep from running out of space.

Need to look at the Engineering Formulas to see if I really need all the other materials I am carrying. Now where did I see those lists??

It's not delicate at all, I have done several hundred thousand light years exploring, visited....hundreds, if not a thousand+ planets and moons, driven everywhere like a maniac, I have two throttle settings, zero and COWABUNGA!, I often do repair and refuel on the wheel, the required mats aren't hard to find, and you know I've never lost one yet. Of course I don't try and jump off the top of things that look like Mt Neverest, I can see the fun in that but it's not really exploration, just a bit of fun. Exploration is about going places and coming back to report it, laying dead in the wreckage of an SRV 30kly from everywhere probably doesn't count :D

Oh yes, just keep in mind that your SRV gets repaired each time it docks with the mothership so no need to hang around settlements for repair at all.

INARA provides excellent ENGINEERING info, if you haven't found it yet. I use it for all my upgrade pre-planning. I addressed mats storage limits in another thread here, seems around 25-30 per is a rough consensus for a top end. I stock a few more when I know it might be needed, such as Ni and Fe for limpet synthesis when ring mining. Easy enough to dump if things start to clog up.

EDDI also has wonderful material functions when used with VA. I set thresholds in EDDI's material monitor and then just ask 'What materials can i discard' / 'What materials do i need' / How can i obtain xyz' and such. Super-immersive and no need to get outta game.
:)

Ok, What is "EDDI" ?? Full name. The EDDI search sends me to Elite Dangerous Discovery.

I have the INARA bookmarked but I thing it may be out of date and I find it difficult to use but that could just be me.
