Horizons Collecting Planetary Synthesis Materials

I have the INARA bookmarked but I thing it may be out of date and I find it difficult to use but that could just be me.
INARA seems complex at first, mainly because it's very through, lots of info (and it seems kept up to date very often), I just think of it as a huge multi-page spreadsheet. As I use it, it does not really explain, just presents data, which I appreciate, but I often have to look elsewhere for explanations, or use trial and error, as when I first worked with an Engineer -- what a laugh, I was so ignorant!

At present, the only thing I want to engineer is the Detailed Surface Scanner for extended range.

At present I am heading off to collect Po to complete my materials.

Then I want to figure out how/where to get the stuff to do basic reload of CHAFF LAUNCHERS.

My primary issue with INARA is the pale grey on black motif. Very difficult to read.

INARA lists these under ENGINEERS>COMPONENTS. USS salvage is a common source for both. Re: color scheme, it may be your browser, I don't have the same colors you mention, it's actually very readable and easy on the eyes in Firefox default.

USS salvage ????? Every search I do gets me nothing about EDH..

My Synthesis panel tells me Basic Chaff reloads need Compact Composites (very common) and Filament Composites (common). INARA says both can be found in USSs. Compact also has Surface POI listed, and Filament mentions Ship salvage, military & authority ships. Despite being quite common I haven't run across either of these yet.

I'm not familiar with EDH, please clarify?

I am just under a year in and I have never seen any of them either.

OK, BUT... INARA listing of Compact Composites (very common) and Filament Composites (common) has no uses..

So far I can find no description of what "USS" means. A WAG says it is "Unknown Signal Sources" but again, I have searched probably 100's of these and never seen these materials.

Is "Ship salvage, military & authority ships" done in space or on planets/moons?

Ok, since I am already on a planet, I am going to play around the POI's and see if I can find Compact Composites.

Use your Synthesis panel in your ship to identify what is needed for each and every kind of item you can synthesize, whether Basic, Standard or Premium. INARA can tell you where it's likely to find them. And remember, it is a BIG galaxy. I have collected on about a dozen planets so far, busting meteorites, outcrops, etc., and have yet to find Arsenic, which I need for Standard reloads for one of my weapons (railgun I think but I'd have to check). It's out there, I just haven't met up with it yet. Same for the Composites you need.

USSs pop up in systems all the time, but there's never a guarantee what you'll find. Perseverance is the key.

BTW, those "no uses" links are to the INARA Engineers section, and no, these composites have no uses in Blueprints. But reloads are not Blueprints.

SPOILER
Try HIMANG but you will need a Detailed Surface Scanner. 25 of 25 in one system.

Ok, Putzing around POI's that can get you killed so off to anarchy to look at Unknown Signal Sources (USS)

.............

That's because that table only refers to what Engineer "blueprints" something is used in. INARA doesn't mention any of the synthesis recipes or materials as far as I am aware.
