Collection of Ideas for Elite 4

Well, the Planck photographs from earlier this year
I think were the first to give a complete 3D rendition
of our Milky Way. So unless I'm wrong, Elite II couldn't
have been as accurate as Elite IV could be.

This said, I'm probably talking about Elite V,
if Elite IV is near completion.

Cheers,

Tribble

In a sense, Elite 2 was more accurate as Plank is false colour (as are lots of the wonderful Hubble shots). So "mainly plain black with a few white dots" is nearer reality. I loved the way the early Elite games were based so closely on reality, within the strictures of the time. Unfortunately there's no point contacting NASA now because by the time Elite 4 is out we will be well into the Big Crunch:rolleyes:

I disagree. Huble sensor can be specific band or full band. If we humans where sensitive for IR the star Betegeuse would light up the sky at night. At least 100x brighter. Images with human sensitiveness filtering are how we would see it.
But I gues that wenn or tech advances so much that we explore space lot more.

This means in space windows make no sense. Space is mostly dark. And here and there a irritating light source a star wich outshine everthing else.
You can't hide for a energy burst of radiation so hull of the kind that stops as much as it can. A save room if it get to wild out there.
Then a future advance space ship would have lot more advance sensoring then we have now. No 120Mpixel sensor to detect relative close by larger then apple object. But 10Gigapixel. to do that for 1000 of km out there.

What we have now adays as a super computer in a hall. That ship would have 100x the power in just a room with a core of 1 m High width and long.

Might be the ratio's are a bit or lot off but its for the idea.

Endless gaming fun

Endless gaming fun

Hello, dear programmers and game designers!
I guess it is a little bit too late already but since most of us older guys and girls will play this game until they die (literally) could you make it possible to imply some "random" aspect to the galaxy?

By that I mean to randomize far away star systems that do not interact directly with the core game story.

---> Perhaps you make it possible that one can chose that option at the start of the game. I am referring a bit to "Masters of orion II" where the galaxy was created randomly - but in case of Elite only at a range at least 1,000 light years away.

In that case we have some unique universe to explore. Wonders over wonders the farther we move into space....

I would also be very happy if the supply to certain star systems - so to say the gamers action - could influence the development of star systems and the political actions somewhat on the long term. Just as it is now at the new game "patrician IV" that is focusing on trading and fighting JUST like elite only that it is set into the 14th century and the north sea...(perhaps worth to take a look at that game)

And as I am already talking about "patrician 4" which is some sort of pirate-trading game: it would be AWESOME if one could develop some sort of fleet of ships that is controlled by AI - so hiring some captain and installing some automatic route through the galaxy to install some needed supply to some planet systems where one for example has some factories.

Live again ye old thread!

Yes, I have been digging through tons of old threads on here

Anyways, here it is folks the most legendary thread on the Frontier forum. I wonder how many of the ideas in here will make it into Elite Dangerous? If your reading this thread for the first time, I suggest you had better sit down with a rather large cuppa :D

Nice find.

You think its worth reading through this for feature request thread?

It'll make an interesting read to say the least - some of the more recent ideas pitched by newer users likely reside in this topic already.

Given that the team in Frontier have been watching the forum (and certainly this topic) over the years, we may well see some of the ideas implemented ingame. Question is - if any ideas are used, will the forum users get credit for them?

OMG my post from 2 years ago!
Geraldine, we all respect you for "keeping the faith". Make your 1000th thread a special one!

These are the best suggestions from the first 12 pages - some really good ones!

Secondary support craft for your ship.

Elite radio or juke box

Player created corporations

No jump gates

Free slaves missions

Brands for goods

The 7 (more would be better) wonders of the universe?

Police can jam your hyperdrive

Space weather - solar flares, asteroid showers.

Supernovae

'Greys' alien race

Organic ships

Dyson spheres

Destroyed civilisations with hidden alien tech

Aircars for travelling around planets and large spacestations.

Some great ideas, but theres only one thing i hope Elite 4 better come with .>

A MASSIVE POSTER OF THE STAR SYSTEM FOR MY BEDROOM WALL!!

Atmosphere Autopilot

http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showpost.php?p=165722&postcount=448

Atmosphere Autopilot - Would be interested to hear opinions of others too about this, it was moved from proposal section to list of proposals so fast it was gone after I rechecked it. Heard about ED so late, hope it was not too last minute suggestion.

Here it is:

I saw request for programmable orbits here http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showpos...&postcount=223

I would also like to see autopilot(-configuration or different module) inside planet´s atmosphere (or "sphere" near planets with no atmosphere) we could set, so that we could f.ex. fly around Earth at 9000 meters for sightseeing and not have to worry about colliding with Mt. Everest even if If I fell asleep

For known planets this tool would show lowest elevation one can fly safely with no fear of hitting a mountain, in case of unknown planets you would have to map it first from orbit or take a risk and hope you will not hit anything behind those clouds... I find this very usable for exploration, refueling from gas planets, "treasure hunt" and just for eye candy for those who, well, wanna fly around planets, even as low as possible to see clearly Grand Canyon, cities, flora & fauna even if low enough... It´s just pretty much up to your ship, planet and what your engines can handle to keep steady course and elevation.

Well, considering Earth will most likely have most crowded atmosphere, maybe I could just set it to 9242 meters and hope nobody else have the same (as I would probably ignore warnings of collision anyways, or assume others will take actions).

PS. would love to cruise above strange planets, even as screen saver or as total immersion with Ocular Rift in near future...:D:p

I thought the Thargoids were the insectoid version of Grey aliens.
