Collector limpet expired!

Does anyone know what the reasoning was behind disposable retrieval drones? My ears are echoing with the phrase "Collector limpet expired"! either they run out of time or die committing suicide into the side of an asteroid. Apparently they are trying to phase through matter to grab an ore chunk that spawned inside it. I gotta take a break or turn the message sounds off LOL! On the upside at least they don't grab my jettisoned cargo anymore. Baby steps I guess.

I hope you found the right mute button. ;)

Also, if you are using limpets, you need to be a little considerate and shoot the asteroid in a way that the chunks will fly somewhere safe. Try shooting it in the axis of rotation. Chunks will line up towards your ship, limpets will have easier job that they can do quickly, and you won't go mad. What's there to lose? :)

You can switch off the voice messages for most things. This makes mining much more peaceful. this is in options/audio.

Limpets suiciding into roids is due to the roid rolling over top of a fragment. Until you are used to mining, try and mine only asteroids that aren't spinning. Then move on to ones that are spinning slowly and predictably.
You can see the fragments that come off an asteroid. When you drill a stationary roid the fragments can come off in an even stream. Position your ship so that this stream passes close beneath your ship. Your limpets will work much faster.

A rated collector limpets will last up to 12 minutes, D rated for 10 minutes. All the others are much shorter times.

Target the side of an asteroid that does not swing around much. Limpets die a lot less when mining the stationary ones too.
