Collector limpets and trying to fly tactically.

So yes I like to do a little npc piracy and also missions which need you to snag specific cargo.

Problem is any sort of speed or turning destroys the cargo being carried by the limpets. I sorta get the "reality" of this but it's pretty irritating when you can't manoeuvre at any speed greater than 40. Sitting there trying to tank damage from the target or plus security or plus wingmen is very difficult.

Is there any chance FD that the "reality" of this could suspended a little to allow for tactical manoeuvres while scooping. :)

Unlikely - and I think that would make NPC piracy too easy. Dealing with (or avoiding) the problem of system security is part of the challenge in NPC piracy. Personally, I wouldn't want to see that challenge removed because the challenge is partly what makes success satisfying to begin with.

If you fit a wake scanner you can follow your target around. If you're in a system with a lot of lawless or anarchy systems nearby, odds are good they'll highwake to one of those. Then you can take them apart at your leisure.

Alternatively, if you find a WANTED NPC smuggler and turn off Report Crimes Against Me then you should be able to loot them indiscriminately without the fuzz showing up.

That said, I've tried the whole tanking-the-npc-while-collecting thing. I don't recommend it - but then again, I'm also not fitted for it. If it works for you, then good for you.

Best practice is to disable their power plant and position yourself to fire it back down when they reboot. Then hatch break and collect in place.

But I'm a terrible shot with no engineer upgrades, so I can rarely pull this off without destroying the ship. So if it looks like I'm going to kill the trader before I can deal with the power plant, I just hatch break them 2-3 times during combat, scattering loot everywhere. Then I just kill them or let them escape, then I rush around the volume trying to collect everything before it expires. It's undignified, but it works. :p
