Collector Limpets SUICIDE?!

Hi there Cmdrs,

I have some problems lately with my limpets expiring too SOON! After I destroy my target , I launch 4 limpets and they go to collect the materials and right after they come back they EXPIRE...they should be around for 720 seconds! the next batch I launch then seems to funtion normally for a while..(btw I'm at full stop and my cargo scoop is open when I gather materials and I'm in open space not in a resource zone with asteroids) then they also expire before their time..this is the first time I'm using it on my corvette...last time I used them for an engineering mission which required me to MINE 500 tons of something on my anaconda and never had any issues. Before I post this on bugs & errors I just wanted know if it was happening to anybody else.

PS: Not a native english speaker, so sorry for bad grammer and stuff

Depending on your position the limpets might be smashing into debris/asteroids on their way back to your ship. I don't think they are the cleverest machines and work in straight lines!

if you just want to collect all - do NOT select an item

drop a limpet and it will collect all up to its lifetime
if you are in hurry drop more but dont select anything

thanks for the quick reply cmdrs...I might have been targetting the materials...I will try without targetting next! :)

Just to clarify the above CMDRs:

Have nothing targeted when you launch your limpets.
You CAN target materials after you have launched your limpets.

Also, if you decide to move around, don't go too fast. Under 40 is ok, above not so much, pretty much like manual scooping.

Only applies to Cargo Canisters though. Those blow up when scooping them at Ship speeds exceeding 10 to 15m/sec and using Collector Limpets.

Elements and Materials are invincible though (can be rammed or even shot at, it'll just push them around), so Ship motion or speeds don't matter when Collector Limpets bring those in.

Popped my mining cherry last night and learned you need to launch prospector limpet first, if a good rock then launch collector limpets then starting mining.

Gah I really don't like this mining business so far........I really despise Selene.....

To borrow an old military phrase, it'll get better after Q4.

Be sure to run an "A" class collector module. Either 3A or 5A.

You should never have a problem with them expiring/exploding before ALL ship debris from a typical combat engagement have been collected. In fact, you should have plenty of time to collect everything from (2) separate debris fields before an A class limpet is done.

Just make sure you don't have actual ship hull debris between you, your limpets and the materials. Limpets are as blind as bats! Anything line of sight between your ship and the target will result in the limpet colliding with said debris and exploding.

No idea why they are so dumb, but it is what it is.

Limpets are tormented souls in eternal pain, unable to die until their contract is completed. EXISTENCE IS PAIN.

If you wish to keep your collector limpets alive, please DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY JOBS TO DO.

They will scurry around collecting things in range in the desperate hope that collecting something qualifies as a completed contract; It is the only way they can finally achieve blissful release from their tortuous existence.

I actually use all Class B Collector limpets on my combat ships. They have longer range and 2-3 total are usually enough for my needs.

They don't live as long.

Something to consider if you are farming multiple debris fields at once.

B class are also much heavier modules and will impact your jump range.

Is this a bug? Sounds like a bug or at least should be improved. Most of the time for me I have an item targeted when launching limpets as it gives me a clear indicator of distance so I can get close.

This has been plaguing me for a long time, but with the large material limits now I am always carrying one and has started to get frustrating. Just found this thread/info so will try it out. Didn't know limpets were so precious to use. :p
