Collector Limpets SUICIDE?!

One more thing to add: the fighter bay hangar can interfere with limpets. Some limpets will try to swing through the exposed fighter dock/gantry and suicide after delivering cargo.

Hi there Cmdrs,

I have some problems lately with my limpets expiring too SOON! After I destroy my target , I launch 4 limpets and they go to collect the materials and right after they come back they EXPIRE...they should be around for 720 seconds! the next batch I launch then seems to funtion normally for a while..(btw I'm at full stop and my cargo scoop is open when I gather materials and I'm in open space not in a resource zone with asteroids) then they also expire before their time..this is the first time I'm using it on my corvette...last time I used them for an engineering mission which required me to MINE 500 tons of something on my anaconda and never had any issues. Before I post this on bugs & errors I just wanted know if it was happening to anybody else.

PS: Not a native english speaker, so sorry for bad grammer and stuff

After the latest patches, my limpet collectors have been expiring at a much greater rate. I have been forced to carry a greater percentage of my cargo capacity for drones, due to losses while mining.

Limpets get dumber and slower every patch. Why do they need to dive a mile under the ship to collect something? Why must the cargo hatch cycle to program the stupid things? Plus the absurdity of having to fly around with the cargo hatch open when the refinery has its own dedicated collection hatch.

As others have indicated, if you have something targeted when you fire a limpet, the limpet will get that one thing, bring it back, and expire. This is by design.

If you fire them with nothing targeted (or something they can't gather, like another ship) they will just keep gathering items - or idle near your ship if no targets in range - until their timer expires.

All that said, they are fragile, and often will get destroyed by running into debris. Sometimes they will even be destroyed if they try to drop off something fragile while you're moving - if the item blows up, they usually do too.

Honestly, I wish the devs would make them (and mission targets) more rugged. Trying to scavenge stuff while in a gravity well is extremely frustrating.

Limpets are tormented souls in eternal pain, unable to die until their contract is completed. EXISTENCE IS PAIN.

If you wish to keep your collector limpets alive, please DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY JOBS TO DO.

They will scurry around collecting things in range in the desperate hope that collecting something qualifies as a completed contract; It is the only way they can finally achieve blissful release from their tortuous existence.

OMG, so funny and appropriate. +1 Rep

Depending on your position the limpets might be smashing into debris/asteroids on their way back to your ship. I don't think they are the cleverest machines and work in straight lines!

BINGO.

They are blind as bats! Situationally Unaware.

Make sure they have a clear line of sight path to the collection target. Otherwise they will run headlong into any obstacle and explode.

The limpet mechanics is stupid and sucks rocks.... you should be able to buy limpit controllers that come with their own X amount limpets with the trade off being more controller = more limpets thus faster pick ups but less cargo space due to each "permanent limpet" taking a spot in your cargo hold.

Am I the only one who feels mildly guilty when I enter supercruise or hyperspace and abandon those loyal limpets following faithfully beneath me?
