... because you targeted the fragment. Don't target if you want them to pick up multiple things.

If u target an item, then release a limpet, it will pick up that one item, then die...
It really makes no sense....
If you do not target anything, before releasing your limpet.
Your limpet/s will pick up everything they can until nothing is left.
Which is the way u use them most effectively.
Be aware that if your limpets pick up cargo?
U instantly become a Pirates dream!
So learn how to de-select stuff, so they do not pick it up.

In that 'targeted one shot' mode the limpet moves much faster. Useful if you're recovering specific items while under attack; for salvage missions particularly where you want to collect just the Black Boxes, for example, as quickly as possible and not waste time gathering any other floating cargo. It's a trade-off, limpets for speed.
