Collision mechanics faulty?

Just had a great PvP match, I ended up losing and got sent back to the station, so I thought great, round 2 ;) Found the same CMDR still in the system hunting players for PvP, so I interdict them, they instantly submit. The fight starts, both ships ready the guns and the shooting commences. As we lunge at each other I realise they are attemtping to ram me head on, or simply mis-judged their lineup, im using fixed weapons while the other CMDR is fighting with gimballed. So I may have to go with the prior assumption. The kicker is though, the CMDR rams me nose first. Both Vipers literally collide head on, nose to nose. The result? Me with no shield, 30% hull and a broken cockpit with 5 mins of oxygen. The other CMDR? Not a scratch. Can someone please explain this to me? Because if another player can ram you head on without any penalties, this gives a major problem within the games mechanics. Needless to say I hauled myself out of there when I realised they were boasting full strength still.
