Colonia engineers

So nearing Colonia, and I've seen exploration data selling threads before but I couldn't find it now that I need it. My priority is unlocking/leveling all engineers in Colonia. Is there a certain place most beneficial to get me a head start with a certain faction/engineer? Thanks in advance.

I've been in the area trying to pin blueprints and max rep with these engineers:

Unfortunately, to learn about them, you had to get rep with engineers in the bubble. So, I'm not sure what you can do if you haven't already done so.

To get invites, start doing bounty missions and stuff for Colonia Council. Ultimately, you'll need rep with them to get to Mel Brandon (as well as 100k of bounties). Hopefully, you can pick up some Osmium mining missions to get rep with them and be able to turn in 10T of the stuff to Marsha Hicks.

Etienne Dorn is a creepy jerk, and you will need to be as well by giving him Occupied Escape Pods. To farm those, look for a Distress Call signal near the first planet in Luchtaine. Get a hatch breaker limpet controller and a collection limpet controller, go to that distress call and you can farm OEPs from the escape hatch on the neck of the megaship.

The other problem right now is the glitch that unpins engineers stuff. So, if you go and then come back with pins it may make you head back to use that very important engineer pin... 8\

You would think that would be high priority and get a hotfix or something. It's probably not hard to fix.

I had no idea this even existed. Ugh

Yeah, you often have to pin something twice for it to stick.
No, that is a different glitch. This glitch unpins after doing a new pin at another engineer. This happens after the other one has been pinned for a long time and even used. Please stop saying that. Every time someone addresses this someone steps in and says that diverting any attention from the issue. Including in the actual error reports. This is not the same issue!! This is why this issue hasn't been fixed properly. You don't now what you are saying. Stop trying to correct people.

I don't even know how long I've had to deal with this now. It's been months at least if not longer.

Thanks guys. I'm still not there, focusing on more exploration data and smaller jumps. Guess I'll hope they fix the pins since they are postponing carriers to commit to more bug fixes. Heres hoping eh?

Drop exploration data at Dove Enigma in the Colonia system until allied with Colonia Council. Go to a res site and get some bounties for the other engineer, no need to look for The Nameless, he takes any. Looking for the Nameless could get you exploded. Get the escape pods from the distress signal in Luchtaine, hatch breaker limpets needed. The last one is just some cargo run. All in all it's really easy and fast. Before all that make sure you have the invites for the Colonia engineers.

And welcome to Colonia, some just come for the engineers and then never leave because they fall in love with it.

Hello,

I apologize for necroing this thread but I have same problem and no one to turn to. I'm fully allied with Colonia Council, have sold them a LOT of research data and I can't improve my standing with them further, but in Colonia system, on all bases they are controlling (Colonia Orbital, Dove) I haven't gotten an invitation mission for Mel Brandon for five days.

Is there anything else I should do? I keep getting back into E: D only to experience this kind of frustration and disappointment which made me quit each time I wanted to improve my ships a bit more.

Umm, this may be a stupid question, but:
did Elvira Martuuk tell you about Mel (so you're at least halfway from l3 to l4 with her)?

I gotta get out there and do the Colonia Engineers, but I'm wondering if I should wait for the Fleet Carrier to shorten the trip a bit and bring my ships out together.

Yup, that's the only way. You can take the quick way back to the bubble by suiciding in a cheap sidewinder, and taking the freewinder option, which will respawn you back in the bubble. But then you'll need to either fly a different ship back out to Colonia, or pay (and wait) for the transfer of your ship from Colonia. The transfer fee is about 1.3 times the cost of the ship and modules, and it takes about 61 hours.

Eh, nope? I should go back and work for her first, then?... **** my life.
The Engineers page (accessed from the right panel) it shows you where you are in unlocking each engineer (well, once you find out they exist ...). Then again, never stopped me going to Alioth before I had the permit, I always look when I'm stuck and go - oops

I know, checked the pricing when I got to Colonia and it's insane. Decided to still do ~700 jumps back in my somewhat-engineered Diamondback-E (thanks Felicity) and get enough data for explorer elite rank, once I get back.
This damn game has to be complicated in every little aspect, this is what makes me frustrated.

Might be worth looking up neutron boosting too, should be around 130 jumps in a 50ly ship - which is not that difficult to attain in a dbx
