News Colonia Initiative - First Factions Take up New Homes

Hi everyone,

A quick update ahead of the newsletter:

"Colonia Phase One and Two Complete – Factions take up their new homes

Phase One and Two of the Colonia Initiative is complete, and the 16 factions who earned their place in Colonia have now established their new homes.
Thousands of Commanders shipped Galactic Travel Guides half way across the galaxy in order to colonise the area of space around Jaques Station. The factions that collectively shipped the most goods were rewarded with a place in Colonia.
The top groups were able to name their new faction, star system, and ground base, and choose their faction and government type. As from 5PM GMT today (February 10th) these changes will be visible in-game, with one exception.
The star system name change will occur at the next big update, in this case they will update with 2.3 The Commanders update.
The Mission Board service will come online at a later date – we’ll update you when these become available.

The Colonia Council are still looking for new factions to take up residence in Colonia, in their ongoing initiative. If you’d like to get involved, visit the Expansion Initative website, and then sign up for the Community Goal in-game."

Send me an email - elewis@frontier.co.uk - if anything isn't working as expected.

Ed

It is so awesome seeing not only the biscuit base, but all of the other factions' presence in the Colonia region. Very exciting. Totally awesome work Frontier.

I'm still annoyed at SDC making the cut. :(
\

I have no time for SDC either, or at least some of their number at any rate ..... but if they did the work to earn a home out there, well it's hard to deny them that. Funny given they supposedly don't care about playing the BGS, or last I heard they don't (maybe that's changed?), so it makes me wonder why they would have bothered. Or am I confusing them with The Code in that respect? Then again, if it means they're out at Colonia and less of them frequent the bubble, I shan't complain. I'm not annoyed they made the cut, but I do wonder about their motivations for bothering.....

Well done to all who made the cut though - certainly would have taken some effort....

Am I the only one who is a little upset that these outposts magically appeared and we didn't get to see them being constructed over time? You know, start with 3 pads and fuel, then add more pads, commodity market, outfitting, shipyard, missions, and etc. over the next month or two. I mean, it's only 16 outposts, not like the entire bubble.

Did you, by any chance hauled any guides from the Bubble to Colonia?

431, but I'm not sure what that matters? I would have hauled more, but I then cleared saved my 3x elite commander for the Outlander Challenge so I could start it before the new year.

Dear Frontier,

Can we get shipyards in our bases? Just simple ones with sidewinders only, so we can store our own ships there when Jaques decides to move on :) I think that's not much to ask after months of hauling guides :D

I already made an attempt to ask about ship store, please, see here

Post a reply in the thread mentioned, if you agree.
I undersrstand, that shipyard may be too large building for very far stations. However, proposed ship store will be enough, at least 1-2 month. Flying every time to Colonia to switch a ship is... But ship store may require more coding, maybe, it'll be easier to add a "shipyard with one eagle"

What they need to do is allow groups that have already earned a migration pass to continue to participate in the CGs. Their rewards would be for additional services though, not additional systems/stations.

Hm, after seven flights... Maybe, but not too interesting indeed. Store 4 ships will be much better. By the way, why not to implement it on all surface stations? Space & places enough indeed. From one side we are trying to be more close 2 real life and build far stations with less buildings, but from other... Store is the simpliest building indeed. If it'll be not closeable by UAs - great!

They should start new local CG's to expand services instead. Standard trade and mining CG's would be sufficient, though a new type where you could deliver to any player faction base would be better, though it would require some coding. The bases could get different tier upgrades based on how much got delivered to each base.

This would make the most sense. The mini bubble exists now. Let's see if we can make it prosper, get better services and stronger economies. Doing more 22 kylie CG's on top of what we've done would feel a bit repetitive.

Actually, that's good news. That means with some BGS work, we have yet another SDC station and system to take away from them. :)

Considering inactive factions will be auto-deleted after six months, I honestly don't expect the SDC to be a presence in Colonia come Christmas. :)

Wow! Thanks for the good news! Pirates really don't deserve to have a nice station. They really need a grungy, menacing station in the middle of a semi-dark asteroid field, a station that is quick tempered to fire on a non-allied ship for taking too long on the pad or docking like a noob and banging into ships on entry/exit, a station that requires a cargo scan for non-allied players to reveal the valuable "gift" that you're going to give them upon each request to dock.

An asteroid station would seem to be more appropriate...
