Colonia Neighborhood

So, I eventually made it to the Colonia area and have been visiting all the stations and bases I can find, running some missions and doing general exploration in the area, but I am really not sure what else I could be doing. I did notice last night the base, Bone Yard, was UA bombed so I am assuming there are either some UAs near by to be had or someone REALLY doesn't like that faction. I guess my question is, since I am returning from a very long break, is there anything cool I must check out while I linger in the Colonia region for a while before making another trip out to Beagle?

Thanks.

There is a current Bounty Hunting CG that you could participate in. Apparently the system where it is going down has had some CQC assets added which will make the bounty hunting a little more interesting then the usual stalking around RES sites.

As far as cool stuff to check out goes:
- land at Concordia Hub just before sunrise or just after sunset
- there's a ringed ELW at Eol Prou LW-L c8-83 with an excellent view of the nebula
- there's a T-9 wreck on Colonia 5 E A. Get the surface coordinates from the Listening Post around Colonia 2 B (the Lat and Long are reversed in the message it gives)
- there's various volcanoes and geysers (and a reward in Painite for discovering new ones)

As Jaiotu said, help out with the CG at the asteroid base if you can and there may be more cool stuff by the time you get back from Beagle. You can pick up cheap combat ships at some of the central stations if you don't already have one.

Not quite either: that station was attacked by what we are assuming to be two separate groups of people who didn't like the previous owners but presumably didn't know about the other group and its plans...

The first group hauled UAs up from the bubble until it fell over.

Simultaneously, the second group forced the previous faction into a war with a faction which had expanded into there earlier but had been peacably hanging back for months.

So now the current owners have a station they didn't want which is falling apart.

Yeah, and those CQC assets are in my experience the best places to do bounty hunting at. Worth giving a try, at the very least.

As for UA bombing: I haven't tried it myself, but from what I hear, you need only a couple of dozens of UAs to successfully bomb low population bases. If that's true, then two-three Commanders in Anacondas could haul them to Colonia without too much effort. On the other hand, if there were UAs but no meta-alloys near Jaques, then the whole region would likely be UA-bombed, heh. Good thing there aren't!

Thanks everyone. I did see in the newsletter about the CG and look forward to joining in on that when I get home tonight. The POIs IAN mentioned I will definitely check out. I have been visiting all of the stations and bases on note that I can find and I was surprised by the number of them. Also, I can't be 100% correct, but I would swear a couple more systems popped up as occupied last night while I was playing, I need to check that out as well.
Thank again for the replies, CMDRs...fly safe and see you in the black.

I'm glad this thread popped up I've just arrived back in colonia myself. I was wondering what I could do this time. Was also wondering wether mining was a viable way of making money out here? Never done it before but I'm assuming because of where we are it's a profitable exercise?. Signed up for the CG as well just awaiting the arrival of my ships, just not the corvette at 966 mil transfer!...
