Colonia trip and how not to just self distruct from bordom

Woah. Finding things to do while tediously doing jumps for 10 hours? That is definitely not fun. At all lol, it is a wonder anyone is out there. There must be a way to just begin the game there, no?

Lol, 10 hours is nothing. DW took three months and is probably the most fun thing I have done in ED.

Get yourself some heavy metal or Bach depending on what floats your boat and marvel at the universe Frontier has created.

A good bottle of red also helps.

Since you were talking about missions: you could make lots of credits if you stacked a number of missions to the same destination. Missions where there are 7-8 passengers requiring first class accomodation pay quite a lot more credits than the rest. If you manage to score those for Colonia, great. But other than that, there's not much reason to go that far, and you might prefer to do missions closer instead - especially since you do have to make a return trip.
Other than that, going to Colonia might be useful if you wish to be a member of a player group, and it's also quite useful as a place to sell data and get some repairs in if you're heading farther out.

I suppose it would be interesting as a starting point for new players, especially since you'll find unexplored systems much closer to the new bubble than you would to the old one. Also, things are a bit different: the old bubble has all the non-procedural stuff around it, the new bubble is outside the suppression zone, so you'll see more kinds of procedurally generated stars. Also, the star density is considerably higher.

No.

Colonia is like Mt Everest, it's not there for casual tourists, it's there for the challenge. Some of us, most of us will never get there for various reasons, but it's there. Locations like Hutton Orbital, Colonia, Beagle Point are in the game and hard to get to because they need to be there, as simple as that. You may find you are one of the people who never gets there, but it doesn't mean you fail at the game or aren't as good as the people who did, it's because Colonia is a target for people like, well like me I guess. I will never be elite in combat or trading, they aren't my things, that's the way the universe is.

As for starting the game there, pop a newbie into a sidewinder 20kly from the bubble where A rated modules don't exist and the nearest engineer may as well be in Andromeda? Way to drive away new players :D

No. The problem with starting a new account there is that the facilities are pretty basic.
- outfitting and shipyard largely limited to B-grade (small sizes) or C/D-grade (large sizes)
- outfitting and shipyard 20% more expensive than standard
- no Engineers
- no Fed/Imp factions (so no rank-locked ships)
...and of course if you then want any of that, it's a 22kLY journey with a B-rated FSD.

I wouldn't object to it being an option as such *except* that there's no way Frontier could stick enough "advanced players only" warnings on it to avoid complaints from people who selected it anyway, got through the early game fine, and *then* after a few weeks discovered the consequences of their choice.

(There are a few players who stuck around with new accounts in the Sol bubble just long enough to get an A-rated FSD and fuel scoop on their Sidewinder, then flew out there that way, but they knew exactly what they were getting in to)

Maybe in another year or so there'll be enough out there for it to be suitable for starting accounts.

Think about eating an Elephant - you do it a little bit at a time - I'm doing 10(ish) consecutive jumps and then mapping a BIG system.
I've just stumbled on some (4 sites) Ancient buildings - didn't pack a jitney, so I can only look from afar.. - next - who knows what
p.s. a Cobra IV is not the best vehicle for the trip ...

Guardian ruins? Whereabouts are you? Are they new?

How on earth did you find them? What makes you think X moon will have something interesting to look at?

While I'm and Old Sweat, and have been in game for yonks, I'm a newbee at xploration and a newbee at Forumification, so it is hard.
I have JPG's of screen shots but can't find out how to add them (BMP = NO PSP= NO JPG = NO). but the label (transcribed the hard way ) = PRUA PHOE XY-Z D114 4 F
As for New ? who knows - I don't, but when I Boyyyinnggg-ed and was near the labels appeared (2 planets, 4 sites).
added later => I had to scan the moon/planet (un explored) and voici label appleared in the 3/4 circle.

You can't add pictures to forum posts directly. You'll have to post them on an image hosting service like Imgur first and then link them in your forum post.

Having spent 5 realtime days and with a 900 odd more jumps to go my, Auto Repair was exhausted & bits falling off here and there, so I hit the Forums and found out about the way-points & here I am in Sacagawae having limped the last 45 jumps on a wing and a prayer.

You must have picked a rough route to traverse with that much damage!

Well - I and a frayed Cobra IV finally arrived in Colonia - only to find the Poly-Tick-Iuns had beat me to it - the joint is full of them messing up the pristine 'New' worlds.
After 2k7 (ish) jumps, with very sparse sampling of systems. I made 50 MegaCr's and they claim my name leaves a line across the universe^^^^^^^^ Galaxy (in first finds -- oh yeah - don't believe them).

To boost a somewhat old thread, I've been out in the Black since the 31st of October, haven't seen a Soul since the 5th of November. Along the way, I've taken some remarkable screenshots, visited some bizarre systems (one was literally full of ringed worlds), jumped into a Black Hole (was a little shocked at that) and still 38Ly away from Colonia.

Enjoy the trip. The silence and the opportunity to listen to my music (good for itunes, I've purchased quite a bit since then) without someone shooting at me is good enough for me. I've also been reading up on stuff I've been meaning to catch up on for a long time. Essentially relaxing.

yea did that too - it was relaxing - except for the black hole and neutron star. ;-)

Look on the PS4 Screenshots Thread, I have just put in some updated pictures of my travels towards Colonia. Funny, I'm spending Christmas in Colonia.
