COLONIA : Worth moving to ?

Hi all, been away for months and came back recently, doing some engineering mods(for the first time) :)
Fed up of exploration, but then I am getting the itch again. Explorers will always explore :D

Colonia : Visit or move to ?
Now the above Q is important as the former is easy to do and can be got on with immediately. The latter on the other hand requires planning, like setting up my ship for combat then storing the combat gear(for transportation to Colonia) and setting ship up for exploration(to travel to Colonia). Also requires dosh if I am to transport stuff there.
So here are a few question :
Limited or good range of ship gear there ?
Cmdrs in faction war hunting each other or is it harmony in open ?
Standard missions? passenger missions? scan missions? massacre missions?
Rough number of Cmdrs there ?
Approximate cost of say transporting an Asp ? Guessing 3 to 5 days ?
In case I decide to slowboat it in a limited range ship(Clipper or cutter), what would lowest jump range that a ship can have to get there ?
Ships for sale there ?

Should I? Will I get bored there ?

ty :)

Do not transport modules we have. Do not transport hulls we have.

Only bring/transport ships we likely will never have (faction ships). And engineered modules. Module transfers aren't that expensive.

Cmdrs in faction war hunting each other or is it harmony in open ?

The only quibs I've ever seen were back during the Osmium mining CG.

Standard missions? passenger missions? scan missions? massacre missions?

everything

Rough number of Cmdrs there ?

more than listed on location here: https://www.edsm.net/en/map/users

Approximate cost of say transporting an Asp ? Guessing 3 to 5 days ?

~60 hours; ~1.3 of asset value

In case I decide to slowboat it in a limited range ship(Clipper or cutter), what would lowest jump range that a ship can have to get there ?

If it can traverse the bubble it can make the trip.

Should I? Will I get bored there ?

No power play. No engineers. Nothing but pristine reserves.

For an explorer, it's definately worth moving to. I did and it had been my base for several expeditions.
At the moment the Mercury 7 Expedition flys from, and is returning to Colonia. The LOGE expedition will also launch from Colonia in July.
The outfitting out here is much improved too, after the 2.3 update :)

1. gear: limited/ no a-class outfitting. check eddb.io to get an impression
2. generally peacefull, colonia militia works for that
3. yes.
4. in the low hundreds
5. roughly 1,3 purchase price
6. was reachable before engineering.

it is worth a visit. check out https://eliteccn.com/

whether to move there --- well, i plan to do so with my second account.

Do not transport hulls we have.
Purple Haze is my Exploration Asp, been everywhere with it, including Beagle Point. She will be transported there if I go(in a Conda). :)

cheers all +1 , except Geomon, cause it won't let me :D

its dead in Colonia, it has tumble weed floating through it, even the traffic report is slow for all those hiding in solo, it has a pretty back drop and if your a miner that's gonna be pretty awesome mining there!

I really only have two ships I use DBx and the Dolphin I took the trek out in the Dolphin of course, my DBx in its exploration outfit costs 14m credits to shift from founders world, considering I made 76m (I did take the scenic route and scanned a fair bit link in sig) on the way out here that's a steal!, my python on the other hand which I don't use other than hunting chem manipulators costs 111m all take 61h

Modules on the other hand are cheap as chips - I didn't ship anything in the end though as I don't need anything with me i'm happy with my current ship / set up, but A-Class modules you need to shop around, and that sometimes mean planet side and outposts M pad restrictions...

I'm using Colonia as a stop gap along to beagle but to permanently live there ...

as an explorer I am bored after an hour in the system, I searched for organic life on a few planets and im done... ready to move on, but that's me and my exploration nature.

It's a question I see time and again: "What is there to do in Colonia?"

Well, not much. Oh, except for mining, launching exploration trips (planned expeditions or solo go-where-you-want), bounty hunting, missions, trading, mapping projects, organised events...pretty much everything, in fact, besides engigrinding and get-rich-quick-glitches.

ziggy

Ok, at the very least I will visit there, and since my engineers will take 10s of hours to unlock, and use(mats/data), it will be many weeks before I decide on visit or move :)

Yeah. In my opinion, Colonia is a great place to use as an explorer base, but not for permanently moving your home to. What is unique about it:

1. Its location, being the closest to the galactic core
2. Many of the surrounding systems are still unexplored. You can do a few jumps out from Jaques and find entirely unexplored high-value systems.
3. Jaques Station has a unique model and station voices (but no air traffic control, oddly enough)
4. Compared to the old bubble, the majority of the new bubble is made up of player minor faction systems and bases - better not to go here if you like to do BGS! (And be mindful of who you do missions for, as some PMFs request people not to do so for certain factions / systems. Check on Discord.) On the flip side, no Power Play to interfere with that.
5. Still limited outfitting and ship selection, and no access to Engineers. If you want something new, you'll likely have to go back to the core worlds.

Oh, and both Clippers and Cutters can be outfitted to have a decent jump range (38-40 ly), so no need to slowboat it.

Slowboat was 20 or less, I guess now, with engineers, it's 45 or less.

PMF ? player made factions ?

Player Minor Factions. There's quite a lot of them in the core worlds, and those who manage to beat enough others in the Colonia Expansion Initiative get their own system and base there. (Back home, they just get a faction added to an existing place.)

Nah, with engineers, I think the slowboating would be below 30-35 ly.

I have a cmdr out there with a fully engineered combat vulture and engineered A-spec mission running asp exp with modules available to refit for exploration.

I used my conda to ship most of the modules out and flew the ships there fairly light. I enjoyed the logistics of getting all the stuff engineered and then hauling it out there. I did transfer a few modules and a taxi spec hauler. This was all before the shipyard and outfitting upgrade.

It is a nice little area and a good jump off point for exploring in the core. Countless undiscovered systems within 1kly.

But if I only had one cmdr he wouldn't be stationed out there permanently.

Also if you plan to go out for a visit take some passenger missions. I made 170 million from 4 missions that were all on the line between the bubble and Colonia, you have to return to the bubble to cash them in though.
