Horizons Colonia

I currently have an asp explorer with a 33+ LY range. I tried to plot a course out to Colonia but was told it was out of range. Do I need to work my way toward Colonia in increments or is there a jump bigger than 33 LY? Thx

First you can only plot 1K lY year courses. Going to Colonia will require you to replot it about 22 times.

My asp had only a little over 29 LY jump and I had no problem making it there and back. Even the space between the arms that was a bit sparse was never over 20 LY distance. Once you get past that point you could make it with a ship that had a 5 LY jump. It would just a LOT of jumps. I have heard of lots of commanders who made it with a 20 LY or less jump range.

The only real concern is the longer the jump the shorter the trip but if your going to explore anyways then take your time.

Safe travels Commander

No sir...what your ship tells you is your max jump range.

1000 ly is the max jump PLOTTING that your computer can handle. So .... if you want to go to colonia you will have to plot 20 1000ly routes. There are ALOT of good tutorials for exploration out there. I would highly recommend a few short trips first to give you an idea about what you need on your ship. HIGHLY recommend SHORT trips out and back first.

My first ever exploration trip was out to Jaques in a Cobra IV ..... the first 5000 ly were the worst, but after that I kind of settled into a rythm.

Now I use an Asp X which gives me about 32 ly, as for OP. Also, for a change from the grind of jump/scoop/jump etc. you could try plotting a jump to a neutron star on route, fly into the top half of the blue "smoke" and gain a jump range of 120 + ly to the next target, which could be another neutron star or a conventional star, as you wish.

The neutron star jumping method saves about 4 conventional jumps in the AspX.

I'd say go for it - learn as you progress along the way - and you get a great sense of achievement when you finally arrive. There are also star ports to stop at along the way now, for repairs, etc. See the CCN posts about this.

I would carry an Auto Repair Unit as a precaution. I have had to use mine while neutron star jumping - FSD failed.
