colonisation question

Hi
I have looked but i apologise if i am being blind.

Is there a thread detailing colonisation and what to look for in terms of planets / star types and what not for a good system to colonise.

do mineral / metal deposits / rings affect what types of economies work best and how best to plan for what will be a profitable venture?

I guess i am being lazy but my time is v limited. i have no problem at all space trucking......... but i do not have the patience to spend hrs looking for a perfect system and then messing up my base once i start. given i only play solo this is likely gonna be a 1 hit and done, so i want to at least start with decent potential for my new home system.

any hints on how to start would be greatly appreciated... or if there is already a guide please point me to it
thanks.

Noone knows.
From what IS known...

  • Asteroid belt = good. Can build asteroid station.
  • many building slots = good. Can build many settlements and stations, which give bonuses or base building points. Check architect view.
  • Rings = good. Can mine.
  • Main station near the system entry point = good (look for the little flag in the architect view)

Regarding planetary types and what they do: Noone knows yet.

thanks Flin.
I have a look yesterday and there are a LOT of systems currently claimed. i hope there are still a few good ones left to collect (obviously i know there are plenty its just whether they are in range or not)

A detail to add: You'll want some landable planets. Some structures in space have prerequisites of building a specific surface structure.

It's also worth remembering that you need 6 T3 construction points to build a T3 starport (unless it's your first station). However, everything you can build that generates T3 points also eats T2 points, so you'll need to build some T1 structures to get the T2 points to build structures that generate T3 points.

It's entirely possible to colonize a system without enough slots to build a T3 starport, unless it's the primary port.
