Colonisation system predictions

Anyone worked out (for the purposes of evaluating new systems for colonisation viability) how to predict number of slots around a system / on the ground / in orbit? Is it as simple as the size of a given body?

This is my test system I'm (very) slowly plotting what to do with (Pipe (stem) Sector CQ-Y c17) and while it's nice to have a WW in there, I'm starting to look farther afield for systems with more options for a more complete / self-sustaining economy.

It doesn't seem to be solely related to size in that respect - in my system, a moon of a moon has two ground slots, while some significantly larger moons have just one. A set of nearby similar-sized moons vary between 0 and 2 orbital slots.

I find that I get the slot count if viewing any system in architect view, though, including systems which haven't been claimed yet.

I would say the more landable planets there are in the system the better as it gives you more options for surface hubs and the like. If you don't have Odyssey then you'll want most of them to be moons with no atmosphere.

Would be interesting to record body stats Vs slots to see if we could predict it. I wrote the EDScout tool and have been toying with writing a few helpers for colonisation either as a plugin for EDDiscovery or something new.

I have some methods that are a reasonable start in terms of searches in Spansh but there's a lot more that could be automated to help Cmdrs find the best options out there, especially if we're looking to bridge to colonia...

Not really. I just go, scan the system and then look at the map in architect view. Doing a basic data-driven search in the various databases first, then choosing the next few most promising systems from a given colonization point. Then scout, and scan, and evaluate.

There is no need for a rush anymore, the gold rush has pretty much died down. Where we are at the edge of the bubble, the border hasn't moved significantly for 1.5 weeks now. And the sub-par systems are not being colonized anymore.

I like to take my explorer ship and prospect all systems in range.
You want systems with bigger planets 5+ surface slots on em.
