Colonisation!

REALLY looking forward to this!
I take it (and trust/hope!) that a system will only be colonisable by the first CMDR to discover it?
We need to be able to name the systems we colonise. (Subject to approval by Universal Cartographics, of course.)
We also need to name the planets/bodies in those systems. (Subject to approval by Universal Cartographics, of course.)
We also need to be able to name the space stations & settlements we create in those systems. (Subject to approval by the Pilot's Federation, of course.)
We'll also need a way to find all the systems we've First Discovered.

Me too!

No chance of that at least for already discovered systems, I think. Most every unoccupied system in the bubble is pre-discovered and in a lot of cases the discoverer might not be around in the game anymore. Whereas it was strongly implied on the livestream that if Powerplay fans saw a strategically useful unpopulated system in the bubble they could jump in and colonise it.

Naming presents an "interesting" moderation problem for Frontier.

We can name carriers, so I guess it's possible we'll get naming rights somewhere. I doubt it will be stars/systems or planets.

My guess would be we might get to name the first/main starport and maybe optionally name system assets or fall back to procedurally generated names. Naming a faction in the system would be an interesting possiblity.

I kind of hope I'm wrong and we get to name everything but some form of moderation would be inevitable and the potential headaches and overheads might just be too much for FD to take on, understandably.

We'll also need a way to find all the systems we've First Discovered.

I guess you can somehow extract this from your Journal files if you have them around.

We don’t even know what FDev have in mind and we’re making suggestions on how to change it?

This makes no sense. Christopher Columbus didn’t have exclusive rights to colonise the Americas.

And think of the possible gameplay options that you’d be missing out on by limiting it to the person who discovered it.

Not to mention that most of the systems near the bubble were probably first discovered by people who no longer play.

Imagine your dismay/fury when you arrive with your colonisation ship in a system that you discovered and had great plans for only to find someone beat you to it.:eek::poop:

Imagine the disappointment of those players who haven't discovered a system within colonisation range of a populated system only to find that they can't use a highly touted new mechanic because players who may no longer even play the game discovered those systems first....

No but his employers were granted it by the pope.

I see the colonisation vessels being even less ours than an FC, I also think when we hire the colonisation fleet we get the exclusive right to colonise that system.
Though a recreation of the land rush scenes from old movies with multiple commanders racing to be the first to ‘stake’ a system might be fun.
