Elite / Frontier Colonise empty systems

You can do that in Mankind. It is quite old and has dated graphics - yet is well designed - and not a space sim, but an RTS in space and on planets.

It could be made into a sort of semi-feature, a mission where you take a party of colonists and equipment out to survey some uninhabited planets. You then have to drop them off, and when you come back at a later date there's some randomly generated spaceport and town.

....or half-dead colonists stuck to the walls with some type of alien residue, and eerie scampering sounds closing in on you......

It's been done. Go check out 'The Killings at Outpost Zeta', you wont be disappointed.

Or hugely disappointed, depending on how funny you find incredibly bad movies. You watch it and think "wow, those guys in Aliens had it easy. These are some scary monsters." You have to see it to believe it. :)

That's a good idea, how many spaceports can be generated?

i guess that would depend on how long you will let them time for it.
but don't be surprised when you find the above "alien" scenario, or a completely left colony, when you stay away to long. but maybe if the ground is "fertile" (that includes connection to trading routes to, i guess if it's to far from other systems you will find nothing except some graves), you will find a prospering community, but on the other hand they might have forgot that you intented it, and take you as an enemy.
hard when you come back to e.g. "schrader A,B", land on "gernots rock",
only to find that they have no idea who you are and you will get no "clearance granted" instead of that a "please leave our system, you are not welcome here!", a huge battleship approaches and encourages you to leave or vaporises you right before you could answer the call.
it's been recorded his last words was; "but..."

In this situation it would be nice to be able to have the option to bring fertiliser, agricultural machinery, slaves etc. to the planet, and increase its chances of success. These could perhaps be donated to the populace in exchange for shares in future profits from agricultrural production. In this way a player could encourage growth and profit from it.

I like the idea of the game growing "organically" to suit your playing style. For example, if you are not really into exploring and creating colonies on the edges of unknown space, your "galaxy" would remain small, relatively safe and predictable; on the other hand, if you do like to see what's out there, the game itself would adapt and fill in a full sized galaxy packed to the rafters with (to quote Q from Star Trek TNG)

"treasures to satiate, desires both subtle and gross, but it's not for the timid"

With regards to Elite, the game would adapt to throw really tough challenges at you, just to see how good (how elite) you really are:cool:

i really had to check my imperial rank in FE2 (have noticed yours often thurwitt)
but FE2 i said in FFE i'm a nobody, just for the fun of it:

commander: crcknki
elite ranking: dangerous
allegiance: imperial
rank: viscount
speciality: reconaissance missions
actual location facece (where else, if you fight for the empire)
vessel: a sneaky green constrictor (i guess i traveled half of the galaxy for that ship)
reg#: Imperial Dragon
personal attestation:"take no prisoners!"

(could it look better, black spotted green and teeth in front? i never will give that ship out of my hands, never! best chances to get something different is in a range of 10 sectors around lave, i guess the corporated systems there got somewhat different to offer, i don't know maybe it's just vanity, but arming also is best on Zaonce, imho, lasers there got extreme dispersal or scattering which is good from 4MW upwards. i guess there is a reason for 8times 8sizes of one class of lasers)

oh, wait
equipment:
class 3 military drive (range 15ly)
4 MW beam laser
4 shields + booster
and all the other goodies you need for a long last in space

medals:
crimson brassard
black polygon
golden spike
platinum cross
legion of honour
celestial warrior

permits:
ross 128 prison permit
guardians permit
commune visitors permit

legal status: 3 times clean
no criminal records in no allegiance (as far as i remember)

something else,
farstarr arriving at Ureneth A,B 2e -2242 -1902

i guess i make a savegame for FFE in this system and you will have to manage to get home, ha, ha, ha!
no i forgot buffet2 exist's, where is the fun?

ok, you might suspect that i cheated cmdr krcknki, but i didn't except for the reg#, it's not funny. i have some other saves on which i work with the hexed, such like farstarr, i made only to explore, or to make some nice shots of uncommon places in FE2. i could, i could also show you how to make from a MB4 digging for water one that spills precious metals.
