Colonization Mega Guide v1.0b Released

Dear All,

Coming in at a whopping 56 pages, the initial release (v1.0 beta, and yes the irony isn't lost on us ;)) of the Elite: Dangerous Colonization Mega Guide has been released. This is intended to be the "game manual" for Colonization which I feel we should have been provided with but never were - so we went and wrote it ourselves.

It is available at this link on Google Docs. Expect high traffic in the next few days, so you may need to make a copy of said document to access it instead, using this alternate copy link instead if the above isn't working.

Feedback welcome - it is a beta after all ;).

Whoever reads this work and understands it, can he answer me one question I have? I still don't know the answer.

Thanks for sharing. The title "Elite: Dangerous" is an outdated spelling of the name. It should be written as "Elite Dangerous: Colonization Mega Guide". Or remove the colon.

Is that really really you in your avatar photo?

He has a YouTube Channel.

Specialized ports are assigned an economic strength value of 1.4 for their applicable economy type and are NOT affected by the properties of the local body - they are only affected by strong and weak links (more on this later.)
Completely wrong. Some start at 1.0, some start at 0.5, all can be affected by planetary boosts/reductions.

Agriculture boost from orbiting a water world is not mentioned.

While additional research is necessary, it would appear that “boosting” entails a +50% bonus (so a raw 0.8 value becomes 1.2) and “decreasing” entails a -50% malus (so a raw 0.8 value becomes 0.4).
Acknowledging that this says "additional research is necessary", a very simple test of comparing how tier 2 and tier 1s are boosted will confirm that it isn't 50% but rather a flat 0.4. Reductions are similar but slightly more complicated, links cannot be reduced below 0.1.

I stopped reading there. There's been far more information posted here on the forum that obviously hasn't been included.

Wow, that's ... aggressive.

Either way, thank you for the feedback - will look into it and incorporate as appropriate. I can tell you for a fact that base inheritable economies do not affect specialized ports. How modifiers do, I will have another look into.

True. I guess I have opinions about someone who claimed "I will never do this again because the grind is absolutely awful" bringing out a guide that is riddled with misinformation.

As to "riddled with misinformation" ... certainly knew there were going to be Day0 imprecisions in what is now a 60-page document, and stated as much in the final page where we state how to provide input, and how the document will evolve.

The Forums know a lot. Reddit knows a lot. Various Discords know a lot. The online YT community knows a lot.

The purpose of the beta document is precisely to gather input from all said communities and make this document better. And, as hoped, the feedback is flooding in and it's amazing.

Whether you want to be part of the process or not is entirely up to you - in fact, you already have been, by pointing out that there's more to the specific behavior of economic values of ports than presently written in the document. Despite the tone, that's actually very helpful - so thank you for that. I'll dig up the relevant info and incorporate it.

[ And, yes, the grind is and remains absolutely awful ;) ]

PS
Doc updated - thanks again!
I will say, the "Agriculture Boost from orbiting a WW" is not mentioned in the patch notes (I triple checked). That one needs a bit more investigation.
