Colony Naming Rights for ARX

Afaik there will not be naming rights for colony systems. Why not offer them for ARX?

The rules would be pretty straightforward. You pay the ARX and name the thing you want to change. You must be the system architect. All names are subject to summary rejection. If they are rejected, you get one more try, and if you fail a second time, your ARX is forfeited. Naming will occur on a weekly basis, and may be subject to an approval backlog.

This seems to me an easy way to get some money from this update with little in the way of employee overhead.

I read the forums and have seen some of the names we are already alowed to add to stuff in the game.

Your rule is too lenient, no free second chance and a higher charge on subsequent system names if you have had previous rejections.

After all it is going to cost FDev to vet the names.

Actually it would take a great deal of time for someone to go through all the immature/awful names that are submitted and reject them, not to mention deal with the salt generated afterwards.
Systems are part of the BGS, changing a name, even a station name could play havoc with local trading.
The last thing any game wants to do is give control to players.

That's why you lose your money if you submit an unacceptable name. Really, it's an ideal system, since if a name is unacceptable it's actually easier money than if it's acceptable and they have to go in and change something.

You could probably do, what, 30 submissions per hour? Maybe 60? If you make it cost 5 bucks for a name, then that's 150-300 bucks an hour. Not half bad money, all things considered.

The decision on what is an appropriate name would need to side on the "well its not racist or profanity" side. Otherwise all kinds of complaints because "fill in the blank" got rejected. Also consider that many people are simply not aware what certain phrases mean elsewhere. It might not be blatantly racist or profanity, but still incredibly offensive or simply immature. Or outright stupid. But technically "not breaking the rules".

Ship and carrier names that can be easily ignored are one thing. And asterisked out. System names being used for navigation, please no.

So they did :)

An often overlooked element is that one may think they have invented a cool-sounding, fantasy name (entirely innocently) only too later be informed it is an extremely offensive slur in a different language.

Edit::- Sorry I just noticed Greasetrap42 essentially said the same thing earlier.

As for "dumbing down the game" - Given half the commander, ship, FC names and the Holo-Me looks I see frequently, I don't think silly station names would make much difference overall.
I would personally prefer sensible, immersive, in-universe names but this is a multiplayer game with people having all sorts of preference/playstyles etc. so it's not my place to tell anyone else how to play.
