Around minute 24 of the early access launch live stream, they discuss custom colors (apparently AKA 'painting', and 'flexi-color'). Though they don't mention any details, I sure hope they are planning to offer an 8-bit RGB color picker (as seen in the Parkitect screenshot above). Fingers crossed!
While it seems clear they plan to implement some form of custom painting, I was disappointed to hear that it would be limited. The devs in the video mention that they would not allow us to change the tone of the wood texture, for example. 'After all, who would want to change this beautiful woodgrain to red?' they asked rhetorically (paraphrasing). Well, I don't know but I wouldn't mind the option! I mean, in real life wood stain comes in red for a reason, right?
Well, otherwise this game looks incredible and very fun and if a limited ability to customize colors is the worst thing I can say about this game, then perhaps I'm being overly critical. But, as a someone who loves to test the limits of customization in all games, I hope that ultimately every asset in the game allows for some level of custom coloration. Is there any simpler way to expand the variety of these assets than altering the color?
Not only would this work for 'ploppable' objects but imagine the possibilities if we could tweak the colors of the existing path textures or curbs... or grass or rock or sand etc!
Either way I'm going to have a blast with this game...
