Combat Asp setups.

Hello fellow CMDR's i just recently got an Asp and am wondering what setups for combat would be good.
 
Honestly, the best think i can think is load up on shield boosters (the utility slot ones, not rechargers, although those work too) and use 2 c2 pulse beams for shields, 2 c1 multicannons for hull, and 2 missile launchers or equivalent for a big punch. Asp isnt really a war ship, so its power systems are not that good. Its also a big target thats easy to hit with missiles and stuff, so from my personal experience a Vulture or python is better. But hopefully you like your asp. I use mine to explore. 30+ jump range with a full equipment set.

Where near Eravate/LHS 3447 can i get C grade gimbled pulse/milti cannons and on which slots should they be in? *i'd guess pulse would be medium slot*
 
im using 2 pulse lasers class 2, 2 railguns, and 2 multicannons. have my asp fitted for multirole right now, some trading, c5 shields with a booster and cell pack. runs good this way, save the railguns for clear shots. ive swapped the rails out for gimballed cannons as well and had fun with that too.

It can run an even stronger build with 2 boosters, or a 6A shield with one booster. That point defense is just a place holder that's only really useful on assassination missions because those Condas use missiles when you run away. Swap it for a 2nd booster or a wake scanner.

Asps are great at PVE but bad for PVP because the power plant hitbox is ginormous (probably an error by FD - the plant sits right behind the cockpit and you can somehow hit it from directly behind, through the drives and dozens of meters of bulkheads and armor). They also pack serious firepower against small and medium ships.

I like smaller weapons for lasers, larger for kinetics. Small weapons take a damage penalty against medium and large hulls, but not against shields of any size. So for PVE where you don't have to take down the shields with a massive spike damage alpha strike, I think its better to whittle down the shields with small lasers (this build still makes short work of all but very strong Anaconda shields) and then do massive damage to the powerplant with the cannons.

Sorry, c= class, not grade. My fault. Anyway, i dont really know where else to get good equip myself. I use founders world for all my shopping. XD

Yeah I meant that. I just call them grade not class. Don't this I can get to founders world. I'm a steam owner. *got it day two of it being on steam*
 
Thanks. While I may not use that set up. I'll keep it in mind. *was going to use the first posters idea of pulse, multi cannon then seekers.

No problem. I assure it is more efficient than most ppl think. It can actually take out shields surprisingly fast if the pilot can keep the target close.

The asp in my opinion is a good combat ship. With A class power plant and distributor she can easily run 6b shields and 2 A0 shield boosters. I suspect 6a shields would also work as there's plenty of head room left on the power. For added defence I've went for military hull but have only had my shields drop once and that was against 2 npc condas. For fire power I go for either all pulse which is good against larger ships systems but you will need to recharge the distributor every now and then or a constant fire setup is 2 medium multis 2 small pulse and 2 missiles.
 
I used to run A grade plant, thrusters, disty etc and one of two weapon setups:
1) 2 x med gimbal MC and 4 x small fixed burst laser
2) 2 x med fixed rails and 4 x small fixed pulse lasers

I'm afraid the Asp has problems against most ships PvP but these setups were devastating against NPCs, even Anacondas.
However, if you have a wingman to distract your target, a railgun Asp is great even in PvP. It's all down to the tight weapon grouping.

That weapon set up would be similar to mine. Though idnhave the gimped pulse in medium hard point.

Here's a link to a video I made about setting up an Asp for taking down Elite NPC Anacondas. It works a charm and I believe I've got the best all-round combat set up for anyone. You can use it as a start and modify the weapons to your suiting if you feel you can handle harder weapons like plasma accelerators etc.
