Combat etiquette

I have been dropping in at USSs and many times I find one or more wanted ships in combat with security or other traders. These wanted ships never fire at me.

Is there a way to join in the fight, without prejudice to me, and kill these wanteds or to provoke them to engage in combat with me?

If they are wanted, you can engage with no issues.

Just make sure that you confirm their wanted status on your basic scan first.

Oh, and plan your attack vector and escape vector as well! Not that this is advocating 'brave Sir Robin' rather that you have what all major armed forces have, a plan of attack, and a recovery plan. After all no plan stands up to first encounters with the enemy.
