Combat footage with the Cobra mk III anybody?

I've been trying to look for more info on the Cobra on youtube and here on the forums. I'd love to see the old classic ship in action, and to hear about her strategic measurements.

/edit I'm talking about post 3.0 alpha and somebody _flying_ the Cobra, not fighting an NPC in one.

Not really happy with my 4 laser set-up so might have different weps as well.

Yeah I was having a look around for some vids, I found this but its in Oculus Rift mode.

Is it possible to do twin missile launches? 2 x las, 2 x small missiles.

Are there any differences to the weapon sizes you can mount on the Cobra in comparison with the Sidewinder? For that matter, what are the weapon mk x numbers about. Are they quality upgrades, or are they bigger weapons that draw more power and generate more heat as well as doing more damage?

That is the load out I plan to end up with.

The Cobra has 2 x class 4 mounts and 2 x class 2 mounts. The bigger mounts allow bigger guns to be fitted.

I think the Sidewinder has 2 class 2 mounts.

The bigger guns do more damage but also over heat more quickly.

Are they pure upgrades or more like sidegrades? Is there any reason to put in 4 x siz 1 gimballed lasers, for instance? Do 2 x siz 4 gimballed lasers do everything the four would, but better?

While I can fully understand people wanting to fly the Cobra MKIII since its the ship that everyone automatically associates with Elite I personally can't wait to get my hands on an Asp. I think that will be a great ship to use in the game. I suspect though that it will be a while before i can own one since they are bound to be well out of my price range unless i do some serious bounty hunting and trading first. :(

I'm tempted to try munitions based weapons on my Cobra, as the Cobra is fast enough to outpace just about anything else, range isn't an issue. Just need to save enough credits again to afford the load out - bought a set last night, CTDed while in the station and lost the lot :rolleyes:.

Epic power! Although I'd probably go with the 2 larger lasers to drop the shields and 2 munition based once the shields are down to strip the metal and see how that goes.

When perusing the outfitters each weapon has a figure for power listed. I'm not sure whether this is power drain, or power output and therefore a possible rating to compare weapons with but the class 1 is 20 and the class 3 is 40. So it's either twice as thirsty or twice as dangerous! ;)

In fact, how much costs a Cobra in the alpha ? Anyone know it ?

It's 41000 and a few hundred credits, that buys you the base Cobra and a single class 4 fixed pulse laser. Docking is hell at the moment, can't seem to hold onto docking permission or pad allocation for more than 20 seconds. Going to wait til the 3.2 patch I think before tinkering much more with my build.

I haven't done the number per se but I did try the following with the Cobra, comparing too builds:

1. 2 x Class 3 Gimballed Beam Lasers
2. 2 x Class 3 Pulse Lasers and 2 x Class 1 Burst lasers

The second build, although it has more weapons, uses a hell of a lot more power and on top of that the weapons that are slung underneath seem to have a different firing arc than the top weapons, which makes sense. This adds up to sometimes having 4 targetting reticles on screen and sometimes only two of them on target at a time. I also found that I had to put a pip or two in WEP to keep it going.

The first build by comparison has a much higher damage output as far as I can see, lower power drain if you pulse fire. It seems to pay to never hold the button down on beam lasers. On top of that you only have a single arc to worry about. It all adds up to beam lasers being the kings in my book.

Perhaps a more optimal loadout would be missile racks and beams.
 
41000? no more? In FE2 it was 120,000 for a base Cobra

Yeah, but this is only Alpha and atm players dont have access to making loads of creds through trading etc, only the limited scale of the bounties and that.

Price is almost defo just a place holder, when the scope is there to make creds the prices will be scaled up accordingly, that how I'm seeing it anyway.
