So I fire up my first random Blood Bowl multiplayer match. I receive. Set up a good drive. Dude's heavy takes down my heavy but gets injured. I make a rush to pass to my receiver.... and combat log.

What a punk! We were on the second turn of the match!

Is this what I should expect from sports games?

if this is an esport game there are rules against that, i don't know the game in question so can't say if it normal or not.
In ED it pretty normal, and it's also allowed.

BTW I don't do PvP in ED.

Giving up entirely and conceding is perfectly wihtin the rules of BloodBowl. And, sometimes, a player who happens to be on the receiving end of a few poor early turns may decide to concede indeed. It just happens.

Also, I havent been playing BB2 much but in BB1 any player who disconnected, P2P shennanigans notwithstanding, used to get an automatic loss, so you get more gold and XP.

Open, public leagues are pretty much anonimous and not managed by other players I am afraid. If this is an issue for you I recommend you join private leagues instead, such as the OrcaCola and similar, where a team of admins will indeed apply "justice" to any loggers.

Well yes, I did get the win and the rewards. But still, conceding on turn 2 just because things didn't go your way is pretty lame, if you ask me.

Thanks, I'll check out OrcaCola!

You ought to give it a go! Blood Bowl is a great game.
