I have always played open and will continue to because to me this is a game and I understand the risk. This isn't real money and how can I better myself if I can't measure myself against real people? I am not coming down on anyone who plays solo, I understand that is how you want to play and I hope you enjoy every minute of it as much as I do in Open. Hopefully you will come to Open once groups are in the game and join in.

Put this on a post-it note and keep it close, CMDR Capt.Smooner will never combat log. You come at me with guns blazing it is on like Donkey Kong playing ping pong. Chances are I may loose but you are going to work for my goodies and I will write your name down.
If I am out manned or out gunned I am going to do my best to escape using the game mechanics while doing as much damage as possible. If you interdict me we are going to fight it out and one of us is going to lose. Shame on me if I don't have enough credits to cover the loss.

I have played Dark Age of Camelot since release and I have been zerged, solo killed by a group, zerg versus zerg, small man versus small man. I have won and lost, some by skill, some by luck and some by RNG. I will never cheat and will always give props to the victor.

I'll be sure to keep an extra status pod especially for your remains whilst on my fertilizer-runs, you know, for those times us traders get interdicted, our time wasted and as a consequence, our slaves dying due to asphyxiation because some poor diehard has a thing against the noble practice of Imperial Slavery....yes, those times when you should have just left us traders well enough alone: We are after all conducting important business in the name of the Emperor.

Sooooo.......next time you wish to hassle an Imperial Trader, think twice. You decide whether the cargo gets home alive or whether a detour to the fertiliser plant is in order.

The penalties for a player killing you in this game are really low. That being said, the incentive to play in open is also really low.... Unless you want to be a pirate or just like the additional danger / reminder that other people exist.

I hope Wings fixes this, then you'll see me in open all the time, except when trade grinding.

The money isn't real, but the time and effort poured into the game is. The value people put on this time seems to vary widely from person to person. I'm believing that's one big reason why there are so many varied opinions regarding the focus and nature of this game.

I mostly stick to solo since I value my own opinion the most - personal bias.

Then I would say "Good day, Sir. A noble cause you are doing". The Imperial CMDRs are easy to spot since you open up a comm link and say "Hail the Emperor" and they will respond in like manner with gusto. Now an independent would respond with "Dude.............What?" and you will not be able to see into their canopy because of the smoke.

The Imperial Navy have embraced me and taken me into their fold (so have the Feds, tbh). They both pay well, just like any other faction, so I have no preference over either. So I'm more a capitalist than an Imperialist, and you can't beat the profits Imperial Slaves give you. Also, think again when trying to stop me. If you win you'll have the blood on your hands of those who chose slavery to avoid debt.

Not always playing open but if I do, you can rest assured I wont combat log. I don't get people who do - they're wasting their own and everyone elses time, which I consider rude at best.

Hostile to fed, alliance and empire.

I will never combat log, or play this game in any mode but open.

Had to complete a mission last night, as I was down to my last pennies. Mission payed well but involved scanning USS in Lave where I'm wanted. Spent about 20 minutes dodging a clipper and viper trying to catch me and kill me, and had to use some fun evasion tactics to get 'er done. Could have gone to solo and completed it in 5 seconds, but being the hunted for a change was quite fun.

they managed to interdict me several times, but never got through my first shield ring or prevented me from docking and turning in my mission.

Love this game, wish it was 100% open so we'd see a lot more of this. thousands of commanders in closed groups are such a wasted opportunity for a great game.
