Horizons Combat missions for ranking combat rank?

So for a while now missions have been a terrible way to rank up your combat rank but since this update (Beyond) has there been improvements in that department or is compromised nav beacons still the best way by far as always?

I'm mainly asking this as dam those nav beacons, hazrez's conflict zones are so boring after killings thousands of ships and I would love at least a semi decent mission that offers very similar combat rank reward for time spent compared to those zones. As it stands at the moment I completely ignore combat missions as they just aren't worth my time.

I have to point out that CNBs and Haz RESs are not the fastest way to rank up combat rank. High RES beats them hands down.

Combat rank is only progressed according to the quantity and rank of ships that you blow up. There's no way to speed that up by missions or anything like that. All you can do is grind your way through it - that's if you need to.

Well depends what CNB's you go to as I can tell you I've got some favourites they really only spawn deadly and elite ranked enemies and they are all like haulers, vipers, cobras etc.. so very quick kills and all high rank and never gotten anywhere near the amount of enemies at that rank in RES's. Anyways not the type of answer I'm looking for so I guess you don't know at all. Thanks

That's right. I don't know it all, but what I can tell you is that I have elite in combat in three different accounts, including one of them only, where I never used any ship other than a Sidewinder. Also, I have ranked up 5 crew to Elite and spent over 5000 hours in the game, most of which has been spent farming NPCs by combat in every type of location, so I have quite a bit of experience. I was trying to help you, but if you want to do it your own way, good luck to you. I answered your question in my second paragraph.

Wow still totally not what I was asking still, I was asking if missions now give combat rank that can compete with CNB's etc.. All you had to say was that no beyond 3.0 has not seen any changes in combat rank for missions and it is still best to stick to the old ways. All you wanted to bring up was stuff that almost everyone already knows and then gone on to iterate it again as if speaking to a total idiot and now go on to pretty much proclaim yourself as the know all of it all of Elite and start to show off how awesome you are. I don't care how much you have played the game at all, go tell someone that cares. I just wanted to know if anything has been changed for combat missions and if they can now affect combat rank to a degree that's worth it.

Any chance you could msg me these, I’ve been having some bad luck, and perhaps a non engineered Coriolis build you might recommend, money isn’t an issue

Thank you for your informative response to the OP's question. I'd be interested to learn why you recommend 'High RES' over the other sources ?

To rank up fast, you need to kill ships as fast as possible. In the high RES, you'll get assistance from a gang of cops, which obviously makes killing much quicker. To get the best advantage from them, you need a fast ship with long-range sensors and long-range weapons. You only need to land one hit to get credited with the kill. You get no advantage from an NPC fighter crew wherever you go because your ranking points are reduced, so it's best not to use a fighter.

There will be less difference between the two if you have use an invincible battleship, but speed is very important. In the high RES, you can use a 600m/s ship to tag nearly every wanted ship that spawns, and use the total firepower of all the cops to kill them quickly. That's not so easy in a battleship. Something like an Imperial Courier or an FDL will rank you up quicker than a battleship. I even went all the way to Elite in a Sidewinder with 1C biweave shields in something like 180 hours in one account.

Also, in a high RES, you can get fast spawns of small ships, which you don't get in a haz RES.

Good explanation, d8veh, and I agree that RES-High offers very good combat opportunities for ranking. I can't say best because I have not tried all (and a particularly nasty bug is now crippling many massacre/assassination missions), so I have been primarily hunting during CG events. I have used my Python, FDL and Anaconda and all perform well, the FDL being my personal favorite so far. RES sites, and RES-High in particular, provide good ranking prospects not only because of how dense the combat opportunities are over time, and the reliable assistance of local cops to speed the process, but also because it is simple to generate a more useful combat instance with a simple relog. This makes the grind a lot more palatable. CGs offer bonus monetary rewards if, like me, you are still building bank as well as rank.

I've been playing only since late last November and am closing in on Elite Combat rank (now at Deadly-36%), having focused primarily on CG combat events to build combat rank. I have tried all levels of RES sites and overall RES-High seems to offer the better potential for both cred reward and rank. I don't see how any particular path through the ranks guarantees the fastest achievement of the goal, but hunting RES-High is certainly worth the time invested.

I eagerly await screen shots proving this claim.

Also, do not have a NPC pilot hired, as these costs ALOT of your experience.... I did not know how much XP I lost due to having a NPC pilot, until she died, and I saw a more than double of the progress afterwards..... I kept track on number of kills and their rank and what difference to my progress I could see.

Roguhlky when I was deadly

Elite was worth twice than Deadly
Dangerous was worth half of a Deadly

Now just count how many of each you kill and between each % change in progress, an you get the picture on how wastefull Dangerous are compared to killing Deadly and Elites...
