Combat Rank - Deadly to Elite - How Long/How Many Kills Required?

Hi everyone,

Last night I reached Deadly in combat. As a bit of an experiment I decided to start recording every kill from that point on by type and rank until I reached 1% Elite.

Results: 25 kills to reach 1% Elite, made up of 2xElite, 1xDeadly, and a whole lot of Master-Dangerous. No Harmless, Mostly Harmless, Novice, or Experts from what I recall.

So, roughly 2500 kills with an even distribution of combat ranks will equal the rank up.

Or roughly 3.5 months assuming 25 kills per day, and I have only 1 hour of play time max per day.

The table here seems to roughly match your results:

Though it hasn't been updated to account for 2.2.0.2 where even Harmless thru Competent kills provide some XP.

In practice, it took me a few months of occasional killing sprees to go from deadly to elite. In comparison, it's been relatively quick and painless ranking my NPC crew from harmless to deadly +81%, so at least they're on a different scale.

Sounds about right. I hunted high intensity CZs in a courier and FDL to get most of my final rank.

It takes 20 deadly rank kills to increase +1% deadly.

Compromised nav beacons targeting small high rank ships is the fastest approach IMO.

It's about 10,000 Kills. Note there is a difference in bounties claimed and kills as one kill can have multiple bounties.

I counted mine and it was about 3000 ships in a high RES, haz RES or compromised nav beacon, which are mixed master to elite. It took about 3500 ships of all ranks to get to deadly.

what this commander said . Word of warning , I was slightly obsessed at getting this rank and would sit on there for quite a few hours a day 3-4 days a week in the evenings . It got so bad I would still be shooting ships in my sleep . I wished this ranking had been based on value of ships rather than volume of ships as it would encourage you to always go for the big ships and not end up like a duck shoot at a funfair :)

I have to admit as someone who has been regularly resetting my savegame, the combat rank progression has become bit of a speed-run thing for me. :D

Currently sitting at 80 Dangerous only a month after a savegame wipe.

85% deadly here.

Compromised Nav Beacons have the best targets.
The Deadly/Elite Eagles and iEagles melt the quickest, followed by both Asps. Cobras are also pretty easy too.
I tend to avoid the Vipers as they fly around me too quickly chaffing their little butts off.

Occasionally an Anaconda shows up, or like last night, a wing of three Deadly Anacondas. That was fun.

Also meant to add - don't take a crew member and put them in a fighter as it takes longer to rank up.
At 90% Deadly tonight!
