Method 2 is to use a fast ship with long-range weapons and sensors in a high RES (LTT 15574).
That is a good location. Much better than the one I was using at BERZITIBI. Very much closer to the arrival point and the RES's

You can't swing a dead cat in a Conflict Zone or a Comp Nav without hitting an Elite NPC.To all Cmd'ers, ty for your replies, I have'nt done any serious Thargoid combat as yet, so i might park a boat out in Maia and jump out there now and then, just for a bit of a change. I've also noticed that elite and deadly rank npc's seem to spawn a lot more in CNB's than haz res sites, so i'll probably focus on those too. Anyways there's no rush, i'll get there at some point, once again ty all
Fly dangerous,
Cmdr Lothen.
It's always very active. I was there last night and noticed something new. In one instance, the police were acting very weird. There would be 6 of them including 2 Anacondas on a Dropship or similar, but they were hardly firing their weapons. The Anacondas had burst lasers and plasma, but I never saw the burst lasers fire and they seemed to spend all their time trying to line up their plasmas rather than firing them. Even the Vipers were just dancing from side to side with hardly any firing. The next time I visited, everything was back to normal. I guess now the police behaviour is another variable we have to take into account when logging/revisiting to get the desirable instance characteristics for rapid kills. That is a good location. Funny thing, Combat was my first Elite - apparently I like to pew-pew. It is the only elite rank that is still as much work as it was at the beginning, maybe even more (easier with thargoid scouts, but harder since most ships take longer to die)
I am still missing trade elite, never really went for the mining cash cow, but in the end it is just a matter of time - it can't go down, so one day, I'll be there, even if I rarely trade apart of some rares (but then I give them away most of the time)
I'm the same only the other way around. Exploration first then combat. My skill at trading is in either the negative or imaginary quadrants.![]()
I'm in the same boat (E:E, T:E, C: Dang 51%.). I'm not the best pilot, so it takes me between 30-40 minutes a percent in Anarchy/Outbreak checkpoints. At this rate, I figure another 28 hours to Deadly, and then it's around half the speed (Dangerous is now below par so doesn't pay and Deadly/Elite are down in points), so I'm figuring another 75-100 hours on that grind. /sighI don't think that it has been changed in a long time if ever. It was always a long road from combat Dangerous to Elite.
Why grind?so I'm figuring another 75-100 hours on that grind. /sigh
Combat rank doesn't really bring you any advantage in the game unless that's all you do. In fact it brings disadvantages because the rank of NPCs that interdict you depend on your own rank. You only need one Elite rank to get into Jameson Memorial.
Anecdotally, your own combat rank also seems to affect the behaviour of NPCs in a high RES. I got all the way to Deadly before they started shooting back when I was using a Sidewinder. After that, shooting back happened frequently.
Look at some of the YouTube videos on hunting Thargoid scouts (etc) for combat rank.ty for your reply, looks like a lonnggg grind so. H'mm, at least i'm picking up a lot of manufactured mats for engineers. I know at the lower levels it was a lot quicker but the last 2 ranks are a bit too much, tbh.
Yep, i got ShinDez from the outset as I have founder status, and yep it's just for the Triple Badge, I love the game and it's just an aspect of it I aspire to![]()
