Combat ranking in a Hi RES Site

I've been combat ranking in a Hi RES site for a while now but am noticing more and more that most spawns are either just at my rank or below. Of course this means that the ranking up is painfully slow. I find myself waiting for a Dangerous, Elite or Deadly ranked ship to show up, farming mats if there are any to farm while waiting. You who've worked the hi-res sites for combat ranking, has this been your experience too ?

I've logged out/ in a couple of times to see if the spawns got any better (ie higher rank than Master which is where I am right now @ 50%. For some reason my Inara below says Expert), so far its inconclusive.

I know the spawns are 'random' but am not sure how it works. Is logging in/ out the bet thing to do ?

I sat screw RES and go Thargoid Scout ship hunting.

ALL Thargoid ships are ranked combat Elite and destroying any Thargoid ship has a maximum impact on a player's combat rank. The Scout ships, while they appear in groups are more numerous and easiest to kill.

Fit a Krait Mk. II for combat with 3 large AXMC, find out where the Thargs are attacking, go there and drop into Non-Human Unidentified Signal Sources, level 4 or lower. Level 5 or above will have the large flower ships. You may not be ready to take those on and besides, they have no more effect on combat rank than the Scout ships anyway. o7

PS: When you discover how many Tharg Scout ships you have to destroy to reach combat Elite, you will be glad you took this route. I was destroying 60-70 per sortie, it still took weeks and I was already Dangerous.

You're better of going to a compromised Nav beacon than a HRES. You usually find loads of ships there at the same rank or higher than yourself. Just go for the smaller ships, as killing a bigger one has no additional benefit for rank progression. Also, don't use an SLF as this halves the progression points you receive for each kill.

I'm very interested in trying this. A few questions if you don't mind;
  • would a combat fitted FDL work ? If not I have a plenty of cr's to work with, just need to farm a few more mats.
  • where are the Thargs attacking ? What I mean is what's the best way to come by this information
  • watched a couple of yt tutorials, looks quite involved
  • are guardian weapons a must ?

Mix it up, do all three, HazRES, CNB, Thargoid Scouts.

I usually carry bait and have a PDT equipped near the cargo hatch.
Gotta be careful taking bait into a CNB, easy to get mobbed if you're not quick.

A FDL cannot fit 3 large AXMC, a Krait Mk. II can and yes, the Anti-Xeno Multi-Cannons are a must since Thargs are all but impervious to most human weapons. I am sure there are other builds that will "work" but I recommend a K2 with 3 large AXMC, the medium weapons are dealer's choice.
To find out where the Thargs are attacking you can join the Anti-Xeno Initiative (AXI) Discord. They are usually up to date on where to find Thargs and have a lot of other great resources for ship builds, tactics, weapons, etc. They are not keen on players farming combat rank by destroying Tharg Scout ships but since it serves their purpose, they'll help.
The Scouts are not as bad as the large flower-ships, you need to learn some specialized tactics such as how to burn off corrosive weapons damage but the Scouts are fairly predictable, after you destroy a few hundred of them it gets easier and after a while I was destroying about 60 (+/-) per sortie.
Preference plays a huge role in outfitting a ship and I am sure there are those who will say this AX Krait Mk. II build is all wrong but, it worked well for me. The two beam lasers weren't so much to damage the Scouts as to get their attention and cool my ship. Hit a Tharg Scout ship with a beam laser and it drops whatever it is doing and comes at you.
PS: While I am at it, here is a link to the AXI Knowledge Base. o7

I am currently out in the Plaiedes - HR 1183 ranking up killing scouts in Non-human signal sources ( you need to go for the ones that are threat level 4)

Arcs Faith is the Station with a Shipyard so you can scoot down in an explorer build ship and have your Anti-Xeno build ship transferred down.

I use Krait MkII with 2 x medium Guardian Gauss cannons (because they are fun) and 3 x AX turreted multi-cannons.

You can check out my build here

Take the ship below out to a CNB and blast away. Collect mats while your shield heals.
You should survive if you time things right or need to go reload. Elite Eagles, Winders,
Asps, will pop like balloons. No engineering, no Rank, no Guardian stuff, just a Vanillaconda.
Have fun..
X.

Cutter, FdL. Simple things, don't engage anything you cannot reliably win. Meaning if you are not sure avoid enemies flying in wings, or having bigger badder ships than you have. Otherwise, well just look for wanted opponents and blast away. No need worry about cops coming there and possibly getting fired by you.

If you do not have anything in cargo NPC pirates will not engage on their initiative, so you can easily pace your fighting. Shields low? Need ammo? Just take some time for reinforcing shields and synthetise more ammo. Then pick suitable target and fight. (Btw. combat rank in my Inara tag is outdated, should be expert...)

Which RES are you at? You need a busy one, like LTT 15574 or Kremainn. Log until you get a spawn of small ships. Are you sure that you dropped into a HIGH RES? All ships should be Master and above, though Master isn't common.

Lazy way to do this is to have a full turreted Conda at zero speed and just send your NPC pilot to "invite" juicy pirates.
Scanned wanted too far away? Hit "3", when your wing makes him angry/enemy, get him back with "0" (dock), pirate will follow him to your guns. Kill him, release limpets, return your wing to his duty in time with "1".

Hm, this could be a nice way to train new wingmate, from Harmless up.
