Combat tips for my friend

Hi guys I'm on a pedal, joystick and full VR setup I'm rated Dangerous and I'm a vet of this game and the past Elite games, however I don't really seem to be able to help my friend improve combat wise. The new AI is proving a bit hard for him and he's stuck mining really for cash at the moment in his Dropship. As he is on mouse and keyboard and not a hardcore Elite fan there's only so much advise I can give him such as things like picking your fights wisely, using chaff and trying to turn more with FF off. Has anyone made or know of some decent guides I can point him to so he can improve. He doesn't want to PvP but wants to be able to go to a RES site or do missions without worrying about getting owned. Bit of a broad request I know but rather than moaning about AI and difficulty I thought I'd just try and get help. I've said to perhaps setup his gamepad for now. He's just frustrated and feels Elite is only good for us hardcore players who put in time daily and live and breathe the game.

Yodafones series on fa-off is also worth a look even if just to appreciate the mechanics.

Lastly from my old keyboard days, before i got sticks, i'd say don't use throttle in combat, use thrusters instead most of the tim and keep a throttle zero key handy for cancellin fa-off throttle lock. That way you can drift fight more than just turn in loops.

I used W-up S-diwn A left D right Q back E fwd. R-F throttle and G faoff. Worked well.
