Combat zone boundaries

I was fighting in LTT 700 - nice to kill Imperials with the approval of other Imperials :) I got involved in a fight with an Anaconda, and we continued to fight each other until there was no one else around. In the end I killer her and... wanted for murder of an Imperial vessel? What???
Ok, so it seems that we strayed out of the conflict zone and in regular space. The point is - how do I know if I'm outside the conflict zone?? I't not like there are signs posted around.

On the bright side, I killed my first Elite Anaconda :D

Boundary used to be 10, then 20km, but I think it's 40km from the central NAV beacon now.

This has happened to me to, chased and killed an Imperial Clipper I was fighting in a combat zone, and got a 5000 credit fine for murder...

I was pared with an extremely laggy host earlier and in the matter of seconds found myself 653km from the CZ beacon with a 12000 credit bounty.

Back in the Beta, the war zone would span an astronomical distance around the orbit of the contested planets. Considerable parts of the solar system was a war zone.
I think that worked better.

If the whole system is at war the whole system should be considered a war zone, you pick your side and it lasts until you leave the system possibly even longer. I stopped participating in war zones when I found out you can only fight for your side in carefully chosen areas instead of the whole system, making interdictions and blockades basically pointless :S
