Newcomer / Intro Combat zones and combat bonds

OK so I've done several missions to take out n ships in combat zones. That's a handy mission, makes some credits and some rep. However, not always available.

Now, there are plenty of combat zones around - can I just go join in the fun and shoot stuff? If so, how do I gain from it? I've seen things about combat bonds but I've never had any, nor seen any in any station.

I'm just looking for something to make some credits in a different way and to practice fighting skills. Low Intensity CZ are ideal for my lack of ability :)

When you enter a combat zone, go to the right hand panel, select the 'functions' tab and set your faction (1st option) to one of the sides, this faction will now issue combat bonds for destroying the opposing side. This bonds can be redeemed in a station.
