combat zones and power play undermining..

Ok i really expect the answer to be "no"

But are there any combat zones that also contain targets for power play undermining missions?

You expect correctly. No.

HOWEVER, depending on your pledge there are conflict-zones-by-another-name that can be used for merit farming. Though, it is not related to undermining. I believe it is part of the expansion or control mechanic.

im pledged to that le yong rui guy because he gave me a discount on stuff. so thats good enough for me to return the favour.

So is there any where i can go merit collecting for him?

i dont really get this fly about interdicting people stuff. every time i win at an interdiction i get some hull damage (the same as you get when you fail evading an interdiction) and to get to hostile space in my python takes forver with how its kitted out (14ly jumps or something)
And when you get more damage interdicting people than you get in the actual fight its a bit annoying

That's just how it goes for undermining I think.

I was doing it in a vulture with about a 14LY jump range. I found the closest two systems I could use to undermine/return to cash in merits and went from there, and it was still about 4-5 jumps.

My strategy was to find an adjacent system to the one I was going to be undermining, and jump to it for re-arm/repair/refuel if I needed too. I also considered leaving my vulture in that adjacent system, and using a hauler or something to jump back into my faction's controlled space.

It could also be useful to find a control system to undermine that is an anarchy style government, so that you do not become wanted in that system, and can just dock there.

Python is pretty overkill for most undermining anyway. Most of the power play targets I see floating around are in smaller ships, occasionally a big ship, but very rare. Courier, Asp Scout, DBS or Viper IV would probably be enough for the combat, better in the mini-game and you'd get some decent jump range (and better dogfighting). I find that when I hunt small targets in my big ship I end up waiting for the cooldown anyway, but if I hunt them in my small ships it takes me about 45 seconds to kill them, just in time to jump back into supercruise.

The trouble is, at least when I was doing it in a cobra, wings.

Sometimes you'll catch a wing of three that can put the hurt on you fairly quick if you're alone. Occasionally I ran into some opposing-faction-anacondas.

Winging up, then buying Vulture alleviated that issue.
