Newcomer / Intro Combat zones and reputation

Has anyone an idea how killing fed ships in Combat zones effects your reputation? I am fighting for the Onionheads against the feds. Shot about 6 fed ships and had no change in reputation on either side. I want to avoid an unfriendly status to the federation.
