Combat Zones Neglected

So after all these years, still no combat zones on planet surfaces or in lower regions of a planets gravity well. Braben himself admitted in an interview that having a backdrop to the combat would make it much more interesting. Is his not low hanging fruit? Why hasn't ANY attempts been made to make more dynamic and interesting CZ's? Playing recently, i am still greeted with the same goldfish bowl approach, of random ships randomly picking targets in a small zone in the middle of empty space. Think how much more engaging this could be if the system was reworked slightly. Why no epic battles outside of stations and planetary bases? Why no warzones with a couple of megaships in that are used as resupply points or FOB's, that maybe move dynamically as the battle advances? How come when stations are conquered, we don't see the repair goals being set up for them, or get any of the damage visuals, but only when Thargoids attack? It all seems so neglected and underdeveloped.

Because placeholders... placeholders everywhere.

Yeah like that one SRV we have to play with, after 2 years they never even developed a single new vehicle for Horizons surface content. No new ground targets for our ships. If you play any flight/combat game, they have a healthy mix of air/ground targets and combat mission types. In this game, these elements feel abandoned.

I want combat zones to be improved also. There is still nothing for hardcore combat pilots to do at the moment that will make them decent money for the end game. I spent two hours in a CZ with a wing once and only made pennies compared to what I make doing trade/passenger missions.

Some more high risk high reward stuff would be nice. Even the goids are a let down. Yeah they are high risk, but weak af rewards for the time it takes.

even the one SRV we have is barebones of what it could be.

instead of having a fixed thruster on it, it should be being able to set the angle..
also who would collect cargo on planets with only space for 2 tons.

If you get yourself allied with one of the factions at war, and take Massacre missions, then 30MCr is what I expect to make, mission payouts and combat bonds combined. (I've not yet tried Wing Missions here, but its possible a Wing of 4 could make more).

It needs to be said that you need to find a war with the correct parameters (I need large pads, and I don't want CZs 300,000Ls out, for example), and if your not allied that needs to be done, so there can be about 2 hours preparation, then you've got three days to milk it. But I quite like that there is some skill to maximizing profits from fighting other peoples wars.

CZ in canyons would be nice, maybe add some ground war going on. I still remember the tension and skill required in Falcon 4 Allied Force. Now that is/was a simulation WITH DETAIL.

Do your fruits hang low, do they wobble to and fro? Can you tie them in a knot? Can you tie them in a bow? Can you throw them over your shoulder, like a regimental soldier? If so, you may want to see a doctor about that.

Or more simply - haven't they broken enough avenues of gameplay already? Let them fix all the things 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 broke, and get on with the other parts of 3.x.y and you can be assured, when the time comes, CZ's will get hit right in the pear.

I want underground cave networks with loads of NPC SRVs in a form of combat zone, where we can play hide & seek behind stalagmites, shoot down stalactites with timing to gore enemy SRVs... In the dark!

That would be a fun combat skirmish...

Combat zones....

I mean come on - probably the single dumbest thing in the game - oh let's all go fight over here for no reason whatsoever. Hey, we don't mind if you kill our mates and then join our side to fight with us. Just FDev doing it the lazy way...I mean, taking their time to get it right

And Falcon 4 still ives and breathes as Falcon 4 BMS last patch was a month or so ago so I highly recommend getting it as there's updated graphics and weapons.

CZ's are a waste of time whereever they are. What difference does it make if it's got a different backdrop? How long do you think those 5 backdrops will last before you ask why you're even there?

Players who don't need to think will enjoy the mindless combat of never ending AI but we all want something more right? An objective to achieve would be desirable - no - crucial otherwise what are CZ's? Nobody fights a war without an objective and yet, CZ's have none at all.

FDev couldn't even be bothered to code in "kill 10,000 ships" it's just never ending AI spawns which you can never win. The most "tech demo" part of the game but I bet the Devs think it's brilliant and they would - they made smart phone games before ED didn't they?

Well, I quite enjoy the mindlessness of it, exactly because I don't have to think. I do a lot of thinking at other times, and it's quite relaxing to zone out in CZ.

That said, these wars can be won. They are triggered by the BGS and are won when one faction gains enough influence. This can lead to a change in controlling faction. Running massacre missions and handing in combat bonds increases the influence of that faction. So it's not correct to say there is no objective, but the objective is rather abstracted from the actual fighting.

However, I seldom care about that. I pick the side that pays the best, and go do the mindless pew pew.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for them being improved.

"let them fix things" lol...... i'm willing to bet i could come back in 2 years and make the same post word for word, and every line would still be relevant. Moving the combat zone to somewhere interesting isn't going to break the game is it?
