Combat Zones should give material 'battle spoils' [EDO]

This is an idea that's been floated for CQC plenty of times, but I think it would be a solid addition to planetary CZs too:

  • Give the winning side an award of random materials at the end of the round. (Spoils of war are a thing right).
  • They could be based on the settlement type. So if you wanted to up your chances of getting a particular material, you could favour a fight at a biochem factory, for example.
  • Add a bit more motivation by upping the chance of rare materials the more convincing the victory, perhaps.

As I crunch my way up the upgrade paths, I'm finding the mat requirements pushing into 'tedious' territory. Knowing that I need a ton more chemical broth to upgrade my plasma weapons, and that means arc cutting 50 more random closets, is a bit meh. It would be good to have more diverse ways of hoovering them up...

It would be great if we could get just Data from doing CZs imho, specifically the ones that are used in a ridiculous amount of engineering recipes.

Just look at the items table here and sort it by the last "used' column which means in how many modification or upgrade recipes it is required: https://inara.cz/components/#tab_items

Here's a short list of the top 5:
56x - Manufacturing Instructions
33x - Operational Manual
25x - Combat Training Material
25x - Combatant Performance
22x - Mining Analytics

Even if it's only a few Manufacturing Instructions that would make a lot of people happy to do CZs. It's really annoying there's this new gameplay activity but pretty much zero incentive to do it. Give people the items to upgrade their gear as rewards by doing the new activities... But not just any random data stuff either! There's too much useless junk-data that's only been put in the game to muddy the loot tables of datapoints.

Yep, you can't even loot the sites because all the ports are dead and the lockers empty.

Yeah that's the cruellest blow ;)

Think given its the closest thing EDO has to a 'quick fire round', some kind of 'end of round reward' would be totally fitting.

The other thing people are mentioning in the Reddit thread is just the idea of drops from dead enemies. Which is something that's definitely desirable too. (Periodic ammo drops from enemies you kill would sit out in the open, tempting to you to dash for them, just as you dash for those exposed recharge points etc. The current 'plan to re-arm' meta would still be there, regarding map awareness, but with just some extra twists thrown in)

More broadly the idea of tougher enemies dropping better materials is just a winning formula too, and would give more reasons to play High CZs, and more reasons to tangle with tough guys on planets generally ;)

agree with this completely, the credits are fine (dare I say, reasonably balanced) and the CZ gameplay is fun for a few times, but I don't need credits currently

Funny thing, I FLEW to a CZ and the first fight was fine. The second... went weird. The AI stopped pathing, they just dropped and shot at things.

That was when I learned that ANY kill of ANY of the NPCs is worth money, SRV collisions work, I suppose fighter or ship might as well? Ship missiles also work.

Also, the closed lockers WERE spawning stuff after the CZ ended and I grabbed a Maverick.

No data, though. Infantry weapons and charge tool overload seem to have FF disabled.
