Coming back to Elite and VR after 8 months. Advice needed.

I had to force myself to walk away from Oculus and Elite so I wold actually get my own VR game done. Now that my own game has just been submitted to Oculus store for review and I will be done with the HTC Vive port in about a week I am getting excited about coming back to my favorite space sim.
Time to wipe the dust off my mothballed B speced Anaconda and A speced PHython. I think I have about 35 million in the bank as well. I have been trying to read a little about engineers and am totally lost. At this point are my ships going to be way out gunned because of all the upgrades? To read the forum the AI is now supposedly terrifying. Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Id hate to be cannon fodder right out of the dock because of my ignorance of what all has changed in the past 8 months.

Depends on how you play. You will be blasting NPCs like before, if you consider them being enemies and not cannon fodder. When it comes to PvP you need some heatsinks to counter thermal cascade effects, that all PvPers are using like there is mo other choice. A cool running ship can also help. Take it easy and visit an engineer, once they get in contact and get your ship a bit tuned. The way is sometimes hard, but the rewards are worth it.

In general, you dont need the engineers at all to play the game. Have fun CMDR.
